Trees are natural solution to mitigate the hot weather made worst by climate change.
🌳😌🌇The cooling power of trees starts with shade.
When surfaces like pavement, rooftops and buildings are exposed to direct sunlight, they absorb and store heat, releasing it back into the air long after the sun goes down. Trees interrupt that process. They shade sidewalks, streets and people, preventing surfaces from heating up in the first place. They also cool the surrounding air through evapotranspiration, the release of water v***r from leaves.
Together, shade and evapotranspiration allow trees to provide cooling at multiple scales at once — from lowering neighborhood air temperatures to reducing surface heating to easing hyperlocal thermal stress. This all makes outdoor conditions more bearable during the hottest months of the year and reduces heat-induced illness and mortality.

Wildlife, forest, waste and minerals crime, as well as crimes in the fisheries sector, do more than harm the environment. They threaten biodiversity, weaken economies, fund organized crime and fuel insecurity.
Investigating these crimes, tracing criminal networks and securing evidence that can be used in court are essential to hold offenders accountable.
On today’s , we highlight the importance of strong criminal justice responses to crimes that affect the environment.
From detection to conviction, UNODC trains police, prosecutors, judges and forensic experts, supports cross-border investigations and helps ensure that every part of the criminal justice chain is equipped to hold environmental criminals accountable.

According to an age-old belief rooted in a mix of folklore and Catholic influence, ang Unang Ulan ng Mayo, Agua de Mayo, or the rains of May, is said to hold healing powers that can cure illnesses, boost the immune system, and keep people healthy all year.
For farming communities, its arrival meant something more grounded: rain in May signaled the start of the wet season and the promise of a good harvest. But in the Philippines of today, what does Agua de Mayo actually bring?
Folk knowledge and science-based data are not in competition. At their best, they are in conversation, and listening to both makes us more prepared.
LEARN more about how our local "kasabihan" and "paniniwala", and how they can complement our modern-day tools for disaster risk reduction and management!
