Pi Day is celebrated every 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐡 𝟏𝟒 (𝟑/𝟏𝟒) because the date represents the first three digits of π (𝐩𝐢) = 𝟑.𝟏𝟒, one of the most important constants in mathematics. π represents the ratio of a circle’s circumference to its diameter and appears in many formulas in geometry, physics, and engineering.

On 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵 𝟯, 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲, the 𝐌𝐚𝐭𝐡 𝐖𝐢𝐳𝐚𝐫𝐝𝐬’ 𝐒𝐨𝐜𝐢𝐞𝐭𝐲 (𝐌𝐖𝐒) successfully launched its early Math Week celebration in anticipation of 𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐌𝐚𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐬 𝐃𝐚𝐲 (𝐏𝐢 𝐃𝐚𝐲). The event kicked off with an introduction by 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐟. 𝐍𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐞 𝐓𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐚𝐲, who shared the significance of celebrating Pi Day and its relevance to the world of mathematics.

The program continued with an inspiring message from 𝐃𝐫. 𝐆𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐞 𝐀. 𝐆𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐢𝐚, OIC Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, who recounted a memorable experience from her high school days. She shared how she developed a deep passion for mathematics, even when many students, then and now, often feel intimidated by the subject. Dr. Garcia emphasized that mathematics is a discipline of perseverance and continuous effort, encouraging students to approach it with confidence and curiosity. She also reminded everyone that the purpose of learning is to grow and explore, and that it is natural not to know everything at once.

The seminar then offered valuable and practical insights on 𝐉𝐀𝐌𝐎𝐕𝐈, a powerful statistical analysis software widely used in research and data analysis. The session was led by 𝐃𝐫. 𝐌𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐤 𝐉𝐚𝐲 𝐎. 𝐁𝐞𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐞𝐳, current adviser of the Math Wizards’ Society, alongside Prof. Norie Tactay, who shared his experiences and guidance on applying 𝐉𝐀𝐌𝐎𝐕𝐈 in real-world contexts.

The activity served as a meaningful and empowering start to our Math Week 2026, equipping students with knowledge, practical skills, and a renewed appreciation for the beauty and usefulness of mathematics. (𝟭/𝟮)
