THE MYSTERY READER
“Reading is essential for those who seek to rise above the ordinary” - Jim Rohn
In line with the celebration of the National Reading Month and Nationwide Synchronized Reading, Mrs. Editha C. Bagcal, Principal IV of Ilocos Sur National High School, served as the first mystery reader.
She shared an interesting short story, “The Parable of the Rainbow Colors" by Juan M. Flavier.
The students listened to Mrs. Bagcal and actively participated in answering the questions about the reading material.
The activity proves that reading is a powerful tool toward success in life.
Reading is Power!
The English Department continuously realizes its mission to provide quality activities that promote a child-friendly learning environment through reading.
With our reading ambassador, Ms. Richelle Anne R. Presto, join us as we uncover the meaning of life through the novel entitled "The Fault in Our Stars" written by John Green.
Let us get out of our world and experience it! Explore and make things happen.
It's more fun in school with HSM
May your celebrations be filled with love and laughter.
In the process of reading, reflection plays a vital role; it serves as an integral step in improving our thinking, actions, and the way we deal with other people. Reflective thinking also helps us better understand ourselves by considering the experiences, ideas, and feelings that writers portray in reading materials and comparing them to other existing mental constructs we have.
With Ms. Angeline Riduca, let us strengthen the importance of reading to reflective thinking with the novel entitled The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, written by Mark Twain. Let us explore how reading materials can help us to reflect, uncover our strengths, and understand our weaknesses in areas where development is needed for us to become better individuals.
Reading widens our understanding of our actions and social obligations. The portrayal of life situations in reading materials helps towards introspection, and it builds our insights about our roles in society.
For instance, the youth of today must learn the importance of self-reflection and wisdom before making decisions. To justify this, we have Mr. Rommel Delgado with Jose Garcia Villa's short story entitled "Footnote to Youth" that influences the youth not to rush things up and enjoy the savory teenage life. The story further reminds everyone that when the results of a decision fail, regret comes after.
Reading unleashes a power that reaches our souls. In so doing, it draws and connects us to others (Prior, 2013).
Indeed, in reading, we are not only expected to decipher a set of letters and symbols; we also need to find meaning and interpret a person or situation that helps us reflect on how to establish such a closer connection to our environment.
With Mr. Jerome Pascua, let us uncover how reading teaches us to create a healthy relationship with others through the story entitled, How I made a friend written by Daniel Georges.
Have you ever experienced having a clearer vision of your dreams after reading literary materials? If yes, then you have acquired one of the contributions of reading. The stories portrayed in the materials reflect real-life situations that provide bases in dealing with various circumstances and creating a picture of our personal legends towards living a satisfying life.
For today's reading challenge, Ms. Mae Pugrad shares a masterpiece entitled, "The Alchemist", written by Paulo Coelho. This material teaches us values and foundations on how to undergo a cycle of achieving Personal Legends, and on how to evolve into a new being with a new goal.
