Today, the CBA Student Council, together with JCI Japan, conducted an on-site visit and inspection in the Badjao Community for the implementation of the SmileByWater Project and Soap Making Livelihood Program. ๐ต๐ญ๐ค๐ฏ๐ต
Representatives from Japan traveled all the way to Cebu to personally witness and support this initiative, showing that collaboration knows no borders.
This project, made possible through the leadership of our CBA SC President, and as JCI Director for Community Development, aims to empower the Badjao community through sustainable livelihood opportunities aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDGs).
๐ง The SmileByWater Project provides access to clean, drinkable water through equipment sourced from Japan, allowing the community not only to have safe drinking water but also to create a source of income by selling clean water within their community.
๐งผ The Soap Making Livelihood Program equips selected community representatives with skills, materials, and knowledge to produce soap, while JCI and the CBA Student Council will guide and assist them in marketing and selling their products across Cebu, reaching local markets, hotels, and stores.
We are also honored to have the support of the Cebu City Government, with Mayor Nestor Archival expressing his full support for the project and committing to help throughout its implementation. The Mayor is also expected to attend the ribbon-cutting and opening ceremony of the project.
This initiative is more than an outreach programโit is empowerment, sustainability, and partnership.
Together, we create opportunities. Together, we build futures.

Last February 28, the University of the Visayas โ CBA Student Council, in partnership with JCI Mandaue, successfully conducted H.O.P.E. for Badjao Year 4, a community outreach initiative dedicated to supporting and empowering the Badjao community.
Through this project, we were able to distribute school supplies to 60 students, helping provide them with essential materials to support their learning. Beyond that, volunteers spent time with the children through reading sessions, drawing activities, and interactive games, creating a meaningful and joyful learning experience for everyone involved.
The day also became a beautiful cultural exchange as members of the Badjao community shared their culture, traditions, and traditional dance, reminding us of the richness of their heritage and the importance of preserving it.
This initiative is only the beginning. As part of the projectโs long-term vision, the team is also planning to renovate the local Badjao Daycare Center to create a more conducive learning environment for the children in the community.
H.O.P.E. for Badjao Year 4 was spearheaded by the UV CBA Student Council President, who currently serves as the Director for Community Development of JCI Mandaue, further strengthening the collaboration between student leadership and community organizations in creating meaningful social impact.
This initiative reflects our belief that leadership is best expressed through service, compassion, and community engagement.
Together, we continue to bring Hope, Opportunities, and Positive Empowerment to communities that inspire us to do more.

Yesterday marked the beginning of a new chapter for the College of Business Administration Student Council and its organizations as newly elected officers formally took their oath of leadership and service.
The ceremony was not only a celebration of leadership but also a reminder of the responsibility entrusted to every student leader, to represent, to serve, and to create meaningful impact within the CBA community.
During the program, the incoming officers were officially introduced, followed by the Administration of Oath and Commitment Pledge and the Acceptance Speech of the newly elected Student Council President. The event was further enriched by an inspiring leadership talk by Dr. Rosemarie Cruz-Espanol, emphasizing stewardship, integrity, and continuity in leadership.
In his acceptance speech, the newly elected president shared that leadership is not defined by position, but by service, perseverance, and the courage to face challenges. He reflected on the councilโs initiatives such as OPLAN Kaagapay: Bangon Sugbo, partnerships with organizations like JCI Mandaue, and programs like CBA U-Discounts: The Visayanian Lifestyle Advantage, which aim to create opportunities and support for fellow students.
The speech also reminded everyone that leadership comes with challenges and sacrifices, but these experiences shape leaders to become stronger, more compassionate, and more committed to their purpose.
With the theme โEmpowering Leaders, Sustaining Legacy: Transforming Education with Excellence and Innovation,โ the ceremony served as a powerful reminder that leadership is a collective effort, built on unity, service, and the shared vision of uplifting the student community.
As one of the closing lines from the speech beautifully expressed:

May this new term of leadership continue to inspire service, integrity, and meaningful change for the CBA community.
