FROM SCRIPT TO SCREEN | What happens when film meets three unhinged creatives?
The creation of Case Files ni Joshua didn’t begin with serious conceptualization — it started with a simple Discord video call. Dyre Lerio, Jaymee Boquel, and Jason Tolero kicked off their creative journey by throwing ideas at the wall: from liminal space aesthetics to a satirical take on the afterlife, they crafted a film that challenges the idea of “performative goodness” among Christians.
The film went on to earn multiple awards, including Best Screenplay.
“Creating the script was fun because we never pressured ourselves into making it serious. We wrote it asking, ‘What would Peter say if he were a Gen Z?’ — and everything else just followed.”

Synopsis
Joshua dies, and as his soul enters the afterlife, he meets Pete, a guide who explains how one
may enter heaven. Pete reviews Joshua’s life, carefully examining both his good deeds and his
sins. Believing that Joshua performed well during his time on Earth, Pete seems hopeful about his
chances of entering heaven.
When the review is complete, Pete leads Joshua to a single door where his fate awaits. Without
revealing whether it leads to heaven or hell, Pete allows him to step inside.
The door opens to hell.
Terrified, Joshua watches as scenes from his past life unfold before him. The memories reveal a
painful truth: his good deeds were rooted in hypocrisy and his faith was only for show. Though he
claimed to follow Catholic values, his actions were empty performances.
In the end, it becomes clear that Joshua was never truly good, and his fate reflects the true
intentions of his heart.
