𝗖𝗛𝗘𝗗 𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗴𝗻𝗶𝘇𝗲𝘀 𝟱 𝗛𝗘𝗜𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗼𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗿 𝗺𝗶𝗰𝗿𝗼-𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗿𝘀𝗲𝘀

The Commission on Higher Education (CHED) has recognized five (5) higher education institutions (HEIs) as providers of 55 for-credit micro-credentials: St. Scholastica’s College Manila, World Citi Colleges, University of the Visayas, Saint Tonis College, Inc., and Brokenshire College, Inc.

The recognition expands access to shorter, flexible learning pathways that allow students to build specialized skills alongside their degree programs and help professionals upskill or reskill as industry needs evolve.

The initiative supports President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s priority to strengthen education and skills development and better prepare Filipinos for the jobs of the future.

| UV Strengthens ASEAN Connections through BINUS CONNECT Challenge 2026

In celebration of ASEAN Month and under the banner of the UV ASEAN CONNECT Series, the University of the Visayas continues to strengthen its commitment to regional engagement and its participation in the Passage2ASEAN network by joining the BINUS CONNECT Challenge 2026, organized by BINUS University, Indonesia.

The International Virtual Student Mobility (iVSM) Program brings together students from different ASEAN countries in a shared platform for intercultural learning, collaboration, and innovation. Anchored on the theme “Youth Shaping ASEAN’s Future Together: Innovative Solutions for a Sustainable, Inclusive, and Resilient Region,” the program encourages young people to work across borders and develop solutions responsive to the needs of ASEAN communities.

Representing UV, Mr. Rogie Nichole Aquino, Director of the International Affairs Department, joins the program as a Challenge Facilitator for the panel on Healthy, Smart & Inclusive Communities, supporting student teams as they transform diverse perspectives into innovative and sustainable ideas.

Through initiatives such as BINUS CONNECT, UV continues to celebrate the richness of ASEAN cultures, expand opportunities for meaningful regional mobility and collaboration, and nurture Visayanians as globally engaged citizens who recognize that ASEAN is not only a regional community but a shared future.

This engagement advances SDG 4: Quality Education, SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth, SDG 16: Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions, and SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals, reinforcing the University's commitment to inclusive education, regional cooperation, and sustainable development.

| FROM UV TO INDONESIA: ANOTHER VISAYANIAN GOES GLOBAL!

Congratulations to Dreen Andrei Buena Narra, a BS Information Technology student of the University of the Visayas, for being officially selected to participate in the FILKOM UB Academic and Cultural Exchange on Information Technology (FACE-IT) 2026, hosted by the Faculty of Computer Science, Universitas Brawijaya (UB), Indonesia!

Running from August 10 to November 20, 2026, FACE-IT is a hybrid international mobility program that combines online academic learning with an immersive on-campus experience. As part of the program, Dreen will undertake a fully-funded academic and cultural mobility to Malang, Indonesia, from September 6–12, 2026, where he will engage with international students, explore emerging areas in information technology, and experience Indonesian culture firsthand.

The program focuses on Biomedical Signal Processing and Wearable Intelligence and Deep Learning and AI for Images, providing an opportunity to strengthen future-ready competencies while developing global perspectives and intercultural understanding.

This opportunity is among the first student mobility initiatives resulting from the newly established partnership between the University of the Visayas and Universitas Brawijaya, further demonstrating how international partnerships can translate into tangible global opportunities for Visayanians.

Through FACE-IT 2026, UV advances SDG 4 (Quality Education) by expanding access to international and technology-driven learning, supports SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure) by developing student competencies in artificial intelligence and emerging technologies, and strengthens SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) by transforming the UV–UB partnership into meaningful student mobility and knowledge exchange.

| BUILDING A CEBU-ROOTED INTERNATIONAL COLLABORATION FOR 2027

Initial discussions are now underway among the University of the Visayas, University of San Jose-Recoletos, and the University of San Carlos toward a prospective tripartite agreement for an international collaboration envisioned for 2027.

Through the proposed partnership, the three universities aim to pilot a distinctive international program that places Cebuano culture, heritage, and identity at the heart of meaningful cross-border engagement. The initiative seeks to create opportunities for students and academic communities to learn from one another while showcasing Cebu as a dynamic platform for international education, cultural exchange, and people-to-people diplomacy.

More than an academic collaboration, the envisioned program hopes to contribute to strengthening the Philippines’ international relations by building lasting institutional and cultural connections anchored on shared learning, mutual understanding, and the unique story of Cebu.

The initiative supports SDG 4: Quality Education by expanding opportunities for international and intercultural learning, SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities by promoting and celebrating Cebu’s cultural heritage, and SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals by bringing institutions together to develop innovative and sustainable models of international cooperation.

As conversations move forward, the UV International Affairs Department remains committed to building partnerships that are globally connected, locally rooted, and distinctly Visayanian.

| FROM ASEAN TO UV: VISAYANIANS SHARE THEIR MOBILITY STORIES

As part of the UV ASEAN CONNECT Series, the University of the Visayas through its International Affairs Department (IAD), in coordination with the Commission on Higher Education Regional Office VII (CHEDRO VII), the Association of International Relations Officers Region VII (AIRO R7), and the University of San Carlos, took part in a meaningful session highlighting ASEAN Mobility Experiences and the transformative opportunities brought by regional student mobility.

Representing UV were Ms. Dominique Sarvida, UV Alumna and graduate of BS Tourism Management, who shared her mobility experience in Viet Nam, and Ms. Megan Gail Amoin, a 3rd Year BS Tourism Management student from the UV College of Business Administration, who shared her Thailand Short-Term Mobility Experience. Through their stories, they highlighted how international mobility provides students with opportunities to experience different cultures, broaden their perspectives, strengthen their global competencies, and deepen their appreciation of the shared ASEAN identity.

The activity supports SDG 4: Quality Education by extending learning beyond the classroom through international and experiential education, while advancing SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals through collaboration among higher education institutions, government agencies, and regional international relations networks in creating more accessible and meaningful mobility opportunities for students.

Through , UV IAD continues to strengthen ASEAN awareness, regional engagement, and international learning opportunities for the Visayanian community.

| UV at the ASEAN Youth Summit 2026

It’s a wrap! ✨

In celebration of ASEAN Month and as part of the University of the Visayas’ ASEAN CONNECT Series, the University of the Visayas, through its International Affairs Department (IAD), is honored to have served as a member of the Organizing Committee of the ASEAN Youth Summit 2026, together with the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) and the National Youth Commission (NYC).

Represented by Mr. Rogie Nichole Aquino, the IAD supported the consolidation of key recommendations and focus group discussions across the Summit and contributed to the finalization of the official ASEAN Youth Statement 2026, which will be transmitted to the ASEAN Secretariat, helping bring forward the collective perspectives, priorities, and aspirations of young people across the region.

Through this engagement, UV continues to advance SDG 4: Quality Education by extending learning beyond the classroom through meaningful regional dialogue, youth participation, and knowledge exchange. At the same time, the University's collaboration with DSWD, NYC, ASEAN youth delegates, and other stakeholders strengthens SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals, demonstrating how partnerships can amplify youth voices and translate dialogue into recommendations that contribute to ASEAN's shared future.

At UV, internationalization goes beyond borders, it means creating opportunities for our academic community to participate meaningfully in conversations and initiatives that help shape the future of our region.
