Broadcast Relevance and Public Trust in the Digital Age brings together media practitioners, educators, and students for a seminar-workshop on journalism, artificial intelligence, ethics, and responsible broadcasting on June 24β26, 2026, at the University of the Philippines Cebu.
The Kapisanan ng mga Brodkaster ng Pilipinas (KBP), in partnership with UP Cebu College of Communication, Art, and Design - CCAD, organizes this three-day upskilling initiative that aims to strengthen professional competencies in navigating emerging technologies, upholding ethical standards, and fostering public trust in an evolving media landscape.
The program is expected to gather regional broadcasters, communication faculty members, and students from UP Cebu and neighboring institutions for meaningful discussions and learning exchanges on the future of media and communication.

They form part of Alab ng Puso, the systemwide public service program of the University of the Philippines, which highlights the Universityβs extension work and community partnerships across its constituent units.

The University of the Philippines Cebu is honored to welcome Kara Patria David-Cancio, also known as Kara David, as the speaker for its 87th Commencement Exercises on July 14, 2:00 PM, at the Lahug Campus Grounds.
A multi-awarded Filipino broadcast journalist, David-Cancio has dedicated 30 years to journalism and storytelling. She is a host and writer for I-Witness, the longest-running television documentary program in the Philippines, and also hosts the magazine show Pinas Sarap and the video podcast i-Listen. Prior to becoming a news anchor, she served as a field reporter for 15 years, covering stories and communities across the country.
Her work has earned more than 20 international awards and over 50 local recognitions for excellence in broadcast journalism. Among the honors she has received are the prestigious George Foster Peabody Award, UNICEF Child Rights Award, Asian Television Awards, and New York Festivals recognition, alongside a nomination at the International Emmy Awards.
Beyond media, David-Cancio serves as an Assistant Professor of Journalism at the UP College of Mass Communication, University of the Philippines Diliman. She is also the founder of Project Malasakit, Inc., a duly recognized social service organization that provides educational scholarships to poor but deserving Filipino children.
David-Cancio was chosen by the Class of 2026 as their commencement speaker.
