Thank you for featuring our very own, Dr. Luis Gerardo Cañete Jr. 🙏🏼🫶🏼

RSTW TechSTory: My name is Dr. Luis Gerardo S. Cañete, and I’m from the University of San Carlos.

One of the research projects we are developing is a rehabilitation device for stroke patients. The goal is to help stroke survivors regain the use of their hands through electrical stimulation guided by artificial intelligence (AI). Their journey inspires us to create technologies that can improve their quality of life.

We recognized that there is a significant need for accessible rehabilitation devices in the Philippines. Instead of accepting these challenges as permanent limitations, we see them as opportunities to innovate. That is why we are developing technologies designed specifically to address the needs of Filipino patients and make rehabilitation more accessible.

I believe science becomes most meaningful when it is translated into solutions that improve people's lives. Whether in biomedical systems or other practical applications, research should address real-world problems. The Philippines faces many challenges, and if we want our science to make a difference, we should use it to create innovations that serve our communities, uplift people's lives, and contribute to the country's development.

Congratulations, Batch 2026! 🎉🎓👏

Words to live by 💚💛

A massive congratulations to the University of San Carlos (USC) Class of 2026! Today, the brilliant minds from the School of Healthcare Professions (SHCP), the School of Arts and Sciences (SAS), School of Architecture, Fine Arts and Design (SAFAD), and the School of Engineering (SOE) gathered at the Waterfront Hotel, Cebu City to celebrate this unforgettable milestone.

The highlight of the ceremony was an incredibly grounding and warm address by Eugene S. Acevedo, a member of the Board of Directors at RCBC and its former President and CEO. He reminded the graduates of what truly matters as they embark on their respective professional journeys:

"Let us be learners, not just achievers. Let us be resilient, not just successful. Let us be empathetic, not just efficient. Let us be people of integrity, not just ambition. And let us live with purpose, not just routine."

As he beautifully noted, the world will keep changing and technologies will come and go—yet empathy, resilience, lifelong learning, integrity, and purpose never go out of style.

Cheers to our new Carolinian graduates!

USC at the IEEE International Conference on Robotics and Automation (ICRA). Philippines represent! 💚💛🇵🇭🙌🏼

USC is at ICRA!

Shared with permission from his post, USC Computer Engineer and robotics expert Dr. Luis Gerardo Cañete shares about his journey back to the world stage:

It took a couple of years of building a lab, gathering and mentoring brilliant people and overall living the next chapter of my life but I’m back in ICRA to present. There is a feeling of pride looking at my ID and seeing Philippines on it for the first time. I am extremely grateful for the opportunity and the chance to show what we’ve been working hard for this past year. The quality of our work should speak for its self but being able to share it at what I consider the world stage of Robotics is exhilarating.
