IMPEACHMENT CASE AGAINST VP SARA ARCHIVED BY SENATE
The Senate voted on Wednesday, August 6, to archive the impeachment case against Vice President Sara Duterte, following the Supreme Court’s ruling that declared the complaint unconstitutional.
Nineteen senators backed Senate Majority Leader Joel Villanueva’s motion to archive the articles of impeachment, which he filed as an amendment to Senator Rodante Marcoleta’s original motion to dismiss the case. Four senators voted against the move, while Senator Panfilo Lacson abstained.
“Adhering to the immediately executory decision rendered by the Supreme Court en banc on 25th July, 2025, which held among others that the Articles of Impeachment are null and void ab initio and that the Senate did not acquire jurisdiction over the same, I move to transfer the Articles of Impeachment in relation to case 0022011 entitled, ‘In the matter of the impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Zimmerman Duterte’ to the archives,” Villanueva stated during session.
