“𝐼 𝑠𝑡𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝑏𝑒𝑓𝑜𝑟𝑒 𝑦𝑜𝑢 𝑛𝑜𝑡 𝑎𝑠 𝑠𝑜𝑚𝑒𝑜𝑛𝑒 𝑤ℎ𝑜 𝑔𝑜𝑡 𝑖𝑡 𝑟𝑖𝑔ℎ𝑡 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑓𝑖𝑟𝑠𝑡 𝑡𝑖𝑚𝑒, 𝑏𝑢𝑡 𝑎𝑠 𝑠𝑜𝑚𝑒𝑜𝑛𝑒 𝑟𝑒𝑑𝑖𝑟𝑒𝑐𝑡𝑒𝑑 𝑤𝑖𝑡ℎ 𝑝𝑢𝑟𝑝𝑜𝑠𝑒,” said Rhode Justin Devivar, the Class Valedictorian of the College of Arts and Sciences at Cebu Technological University – Main Campus. His voice carried the weight of lived experience—a journey that began not in triumph, but in uncertainty, rejection, and waiting.

His story is one of rejection, redirection, and quiet resilience. Denied by his first choice three times, Rhode did not give up—instead, he leaned into faith, hope, and a hunger for growth. “𝐼 𝑛𝑒𝑒𝑑𝑒𝑑 𝑑𝑖𝑟𝑒𝑐𝑡𝑖𝑜𝑛, 𝑛𝑜𝑡 𝑝𝑒𝑟𝑓𝑒𝑐𝑡𝑖𝑜𝑛,” he said, reminding fellow graduates that detours do not disqualify dreams. In fact, they often refine them.

"𝑆𝑢𝑐𝑐𝑒𝑠𝑠 𝑖𝑠 𝑠𝑤𝑒𝑒𝑡𝑒𝑟 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑠𝑒𝑐𝑜𝑛𝑑 𝑡𝑖𝑚𝑒 𝑎𝑟𝑜𝑢𝑛𝑑,” he added, and in those few words is a whole world of struggle turned into strength. Rhode’s journey speaks to every student who had to fight for a seat at the table—proving that delay is not defeat, and redirection is never the end of the road.

Beyond his own path, Rhode honored those whose stories are often unseen: “𝑇𝑜 𝑎𝑙𝑙 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑤𝑜𝑟𝑘𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝑠𝑡𝑢𝑑𝑒𝑛𝑡𝑠, 𝑠𝑒𝑙𝑓-𝑠𝑢𝑝𝑝𝑜𝑟𝑡𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝑡ℎ𝑟𝑖𝑣𝑖𝑛𝑔; 𝐼 𝑡𝑟𝑢𝑙𝑦 𝑎𝑑𝑚𝑖𝑟𝑒 𝑦𝑜𝑢𝑟 𝑔𝑟𝑖𝑡 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝑝𝑒𝑟𝑠𝑒𝑣𝑒𝑟𝑎𝑛𝑐𝑒.” He validated the long nights, the double shifts, the missed meals, and the burden of choosing between tuition and transport. “𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝒉𝒂𝒔𝒔𝒍𝒆 𝒊𝒔 𝒘𝒐𝒓𝒕𝒉 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒕𝒂𝒔𝒔𝒆𝒍,” he declared—and with that, turned struggle into celebration.

“𝐼 𝑎𝑚 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑓𝑖𝑟𝑠𝑡 𝑡𝑜 𝑣𝑎𝑙𝑖𝑑𝑎𝑡𝑒 𝑦𝑜𝑢𝑟 𝑠𝑢𝑐𝑐𝑒𝑠𝑠,” Rhode emphasized. “𝐼 𝑢𝑝ℎ𝑜𝑙𝑑 𝑖𝑡 𝑤𝑖𝑡ℎ 𝑝𝑢𝑟𝑝𝑜𝑠𝑒, 𝑚𝑖𝑠𝑠𝑖𝑜𝑛, 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝑚𝑒𝑎𝑛𝑖𝑛𝑔—𝑎𝑠 𝑦𝑜𝑢𝑟 𝑡𝑒𝑠𝑡𝑎𝑚𝑒𝑛𝑡 𝑜𝑓 𝑐𝑜𝑢𝑟𝑎𝑔𝑒, 𝑐𝑜𝑛𝑣𝑖𝑐𝑡𝑖𝑜𝑛, 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝑣𝑎𝑙𝑜𝑟.”

His message is a reminder that triumph doesn’t always wear medals—it sometimes walks in tired shoes, carrying silent stories of sacrifice.

In honoring both redirection and resilience, Rhode invites us to rewrite what success looks like: not just first chances, but faithful steps; not just perfection, but persistence.

At last—𝑖𝑡’𝑠 ℎ𝑒𝑟𝑒. The moment we dreamed of through every all-nighter, every tear we wiped in silence, every goodbye we never knew we were saying. The 110th Commencement Exercises of the College of Arts and Sciences have arrived. And whether you march in the warmth of day or under the hush of night, this is our 𝐁𝐈𝐆 𝐃𝐀𝐘—a chapter closing with grace, and a new one opening in gold.

This isn’t just a ceremony—it’s a 𝐓𝐀𝐊𝐄𝐃𝐎𝐖𝐍 of everything that told us we weren’t enough. The doubt, the fear, the moments we almost walked away. Happening Now: The College of Arts and Sciences Hooding Ceremony is underway today, June 24, 2025, at the CTU Main Gymnasium.

This momentous event is proudly attended by the CAS graduates from Bachelor of Science in Development Communication, Bachelor of Arts in English Language, Batsilyer ng Sining sa Filipino, Bachelor of Science in Psychology, Bachelor of Arts in Literature, Bachelor of Science in Mathematics, and Bachelor of Science in Statistics, celebrating years of hard work, resilience, and academic excellence.

This special event symbolizes the formal investiture of academic achievement, where each graduating student will be officially hooded by the chairman of their respective department.

The CAS Graduating Council of Cebu Technological University – Main Campus has 𝐬𝐜𝐡𝐞𝐝𝐮𝐥𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐁𝐚𝐜𝐜𝐚𝐥𝐚𝐮𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐌𝐚𝐬𝐬 on 𝐉𝐮𝐧𝐞 𝟐𝟒, 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟓, from 𝟖:𝟎𝟎 𝐀𝐌 to 𝟗:𝟎𝟎 𝐀𝐌 at the 𝐂𝐓𝐔 𝐆𝐲𝐦𝐧𝐚𝐬𝐢𝐮𝐦. This Mass is a special moment for graduating students 𝑡𝑜 𝑜𝑓𝑓𝑒𝑟 𝑡ℎ𝑎𝑛𝑘𝑠 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝑠𝑒𝑒𝑘 𝑏𝑙𝑒𝑠𝑠𝑖𝑛𝑔𝑠 𝑎𝑠 𝑡ℎ𝑒𝑦 𝑝𝑟𝑒𝑝𝑎𝑟𝑒 𝑡𝑜 𝑒𝑚𝑏𝑎𝑟𝑘 𝑜𝑛 𝑡ℎ𝑒𝑖𝑟 𝑛𝑒𝑥𝑡 𝑗𝑜𝑢𝑟𝑛𝑒𝑦.
