Imperfectly Beautiful
Clark Myer Arquio
Oil on canvas
2ft x 3ft
Clark Myer Arquio is a first-year student currently enrolled in UP Cebu's Fine Arts Program. His hyperrealistic portrait bagged third in the Jose Joya awards.
Clark's work is a self portrait with oil as the medium. A calming play of light brown tints make up the face of the subject. A depiction of an emotionless face stares intently into the eyes of the viewers. A white shirt is painted below the face and a mixture of both thin and thick strokes occupy the entire portrait. The background shows a much darker shade of brown contrasting the lighter tones of the subject. Thicker strokes also accompany the darker shades in both the details of the background and hair. A thick, heavy stroke of a brown and yellowish hue interrupts the subject's realism as it glides across the middle of the face.
You can view Clark's artwork in the Jose T. Joya Gallery for the entire month of February.
