As part of our voter’s education campaign, the Supreme Student Government of Southwestern University PHINMA launches 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐀𝐑𝐓 𝐎𝐅 𝐋𝐄𝐀𝐕𝐈𝐍𝐆 — a four-part series examining the systems, realities, and institutions that shape public trust and accountability.

This first installment focuses on corruption: not only the money lost, but the opportunities, services, and futures that disappear with it.

Because before we choose leaders, we must first understand what is truly being lost.

Designed by Fine Arts student Maria Leamae Patagnan and fully approved by university authorities, the new emblem represents the society's core values and mission:

On May 8, SWU PHINMA SSG President-Elect
Louie N. Figueroa joined world leaders, government officials, regional ministers, international experts, civil society leaders, and academic and youth representatives from across Southeast Asia at the ASEAN for the Peoples 2026, held at Movenpick Hotel Mactan, Cebu, on the 48th ASEAN Summit.

Representing the youth sector among many, President-Elect Figueroa participated in all five sessions of the Town Hall, organized by the foreign Policy Community of Indonesia as Part of ASEAN for the Peoples Week 2026. The sessions covered the SDGs in ASEAN, digitalization and MSMEs, climate and energy resilience, ASEAN’s role in a changing world, and the pursuit of a people-centered regional community.

The decisions made in rooms like these shape the futures of the same students and communities we serve every day. For SWU PHINMA SSG, that is not a privilege to be admired. It is a responsibility to be carried.

Last May 15 and May 17, Southwestern University PHINMA proudly held its Commencement Exercises 2026 at the Pacific Grand Ballroom, Waterfront Hotel and Casino.

Among the graduates are our former SWU Supreme Student Government officers who once led and served the Cobra community with dedication and heart. Today, we celebrate not only their academic achievement but also the leadership and service they have shared with the student body.

𝐄𝐍𝐕𝐈𝐑𝐎𝐍𝐌𝐄𝐍𝐓𝐀𝐋 𝐂𝐇𝐀𝐌𝐏𝐈𝐎𝐍𝐒!

On April 28, President-Elect Louie N. FIgueroa and Former President Rance C. Martel attended the consultation convened by Cebu City Mayor Nestor D. Archival, a multi-sectoral dialogue with barangay officials, people’s organizations, and private establishments that directly preceded the signing of an Executive Order declaring a State of Solid Waste Management Emergency in Cebu City.

The order grounded in Republic Act No.9003 and urgently prompted by the trash landslide and closure of the Binaliw dumpsite, mandates citywide waste segregation at source, the reactivation of Materials Recovery Facilities across barangays, biodegradable composting, and a pilot rollout across ten barangays. SWU PHINMA sits within this city. This order affects our students, our communities, and our environment.

A cleaner Cebu City is a better home for every SWU PHINMA student. This administration stands with that commitment, fully and without reservation.

The Supreme Student Government (SSG) - Legislative Branch, in coordination with the Student Life Office, is proud to officially launch the 𝐋𝐨𝐬𝐭 & 𝐅𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐝 𝐃𝐢𝐠𝐢𝐭𝐚𝐥 𝐈𝐧𝐯𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐲—a streamlined system dedicated to helping Cobras recover their missing belongings with ease and transparency.

This initiative is established in pursuant to 𝐒𝐩𝐞𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐨𝐥𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐍𝐨. 𝟏𝟓, 𝐒. 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟓, authored and developed by 𝐇𝐨𝐧. 𝐑𝐡𝐨𝐧 𝐃𝐰𝐲𝐚𝐧𝐞 𝐃𝐞 𝐆𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐢𝐚. Through this resolution, we aim to modernize the way we manage lost property on campus, providing a centralized and accessible database for the entire student body.

The launch of this inventory reflects our unwavering commitment to student service, accountability, and efficiency, ensuring that we look out for one another and that lost items find their way back to their rightful owners.

On May 15, The Supreme Student Government of Southwestern University PHINMA formally enters a consultative partnership with the School of Governance and Public Service.

This institutional engagement is grounded in the administration’s recognition that effective student governance must be anchored not only in student voice, but also in sound institutional knowledge, legal rigor, and community-oriented frameworks.

Through this consultative partnership, the administration gains guidance in legislative work, public statements and communications, legal document review, community linkage, and leadership and governance development frameworks — strengthening the SSG’s capacity to deliver policies, programs, and institutional outputs that are legally sound, contextually appropriate, and aligned with institutional and national standards.

The Supreme Student Government likewise extends its appreciation to 𝐃𝐞𝐚𝐧 𝐌𝐚𝐧𝐮𝐞𝐥 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐬𝐞 𝐈𝐈𝐈 𝐌. 𝐂𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐨, Dean of the School of Governance and Public Service, for his openness and support in making this collaboration possible.

By drawing upon the expertise and networks of the School of Governance and Public Service, the administration aims to further strengthen student governance systems and advance more informed, structured, and impactful initiatives for the SWU PHINMA student body.

Last April 1, the SWU Supreme Student Government formally joined 125 organizations nationwide — including transport unions, party-lists, civil society coalitions, university governments, and people’s movements — in a national solidarity statement addressed to the Philippine executive government.

This collective action calls for real and systemic transport reforms that address the daily struggles faced by the 94% of Filipinos who rely on public transportation.

As a student government, the SWU Supreme Student Government recognizes that transportation is not merely an issue of mobility, but one that directly affects students’ access to education, safety, and daily opportunities. Through this solidarity statement, the administration affirms its support for commuter-centered policies and long-term structural solutions to the country’s transport crisis.
