With heavy hearts, the entire SMASN community mourns the passing of our dear faithful faculty member, Mr. Melanio G. Mabatid, who joined his Creator today, April 25, 2026.

For decades, Sir Melanio faithfully dedicated his life to the noble mission of education. His unwavering commitment, quiet strength, and selfless service became a guiding light within our institution. Even through the years, his passion never waned—he continued to give, to teach, and to inspire with a heart devoted to his calling.

More than an educator, he was a mentor, a colleague, and a source of wisdom whose presence shaped generations. His legacy is etched not only in the halls of our school, but in the countless lives he nurtured and uplifted.

In this time of grief, we unite in prayer and remembrance, offering our deepest condolences to his family and loved ones. May his soul rest in eternal peace, embraced by the grace of our Creator.

Personnel from St. Mary’s Academy of San Nicolas, Inc. successfully carried out a meaningful series of spiritual, academic, and year-end outing on April 11, 2026, as part of their retreat and year-end program.

The day commenced with a visit to the Divine Mercy Shrine El Salvador Cagayan de Oro in anticipation of the Feast of the Divine Mercy celebrated on April 12, 2026. The visit allowed personnels to engage in prayer and reflection, strengthening their faith and unity as a community.

After the spiritual activity, the group proceeded to Lourdes College Integrated Basic Education Department (IBED) Cagayan de Oro for a benchmarking session. The exchange of ideas and best practices contributed to the continuous improvement of educational services. The personnel then visited the Lourdes College Main Campus, where they were warmly welcomed by S. Maria Miraflor Bahan, RVM school president. Another significant engagement followed with St. Mary’s Academy of Carmen Cagayan de Oro, welcomed by S. Maria Asteria Emadin, RVM, Directress/Principal and Regional Superior of Northern Mindanao. Early dinner at the RVM Regional House, Northern Mindanao region provided an opportunity for fellowship and meaningful conversations among the participants.

At 5:30 p.m., personnels attended Holy Mass at St. Augustine Cathedral, further grounding the day’s activities in faith and reflection. They later returned to Betania for rest.

The retreat activities continued the next day with a year-end outing at Villa Arcadia Resort in Talisayan, Misamis Oriental, offering time for relaxation, bonding, and celebration of shared accomplishments.

The SMASN personnel extend their heartfelt gratitude to S. Maria Miraflor Bahan, RVM, and S. Maria Asteria Emadin, RVM, for their warm welcome, guidance, and support throughout the visit. Their dedication and hospitality greatly enriched the experience, making the activity both meaningful and memorable.

The entire event underscored the institution’s commitment to holistic development—nurturing spiritual growth, professional excellence, and a strong sense of community.

On the second day of the retreat, SMASN Personnel continued their spiritual journey with a deeper focus on the theme of love, beginning the morning in a spirit of gratitude and openness to God’s presence. The session centered on the profound truth that love begins with God, flowing into each person’s life as a gift freely given. Personnel were invited to reflect on the identity, “I am God’s beloved,” embracing this truth through moments of silence, personal prayer, and heartfelt sharing within the community.

Through guided reflection and spiritual input, the personnel were encouraged to recognize how God’s love sustains and transforms their daily lives and relationships. The atmosphere of trust and openness allowed each one to encounter love not only as a concept, but as a lived experience that calls them to love others more deeply in return.

In the afternoon, the retreat transitioned into a session on Ignatian discernment, inviting personnels to prayerfully consider the question, “What matters most in your life?” This reflective process led them to listen more attentively to God’s movement within their hearts, discerning His will through inner stirrings, desires, and experiences.

As the day unfolded, SMASN Personnel engaged in moments of quiet sensing and reflection, seeking clarity and direction in their personal and shared mission. The retreat concluded with a thanksgiving Eucharistic Celebration, where all gathered in gratitude for the grace-filled days, offering their renewed commitments and hearts to God.

SMASN Personnel commenced their two-day retreat on April 9-10, 2026, at Betania Retreat House in Malasag, Cagayan de Oro, gathering in a spirit of prayer and reflection under the 𝑡ℎ𝑒𝑚𝑒 “𝐻𝑜𝑝𝑒, 𝐿𝑜𝑣𝑒, 𝑀𝑖𝑠𝑠𝑖𝑜𝑛.” The first day of the retreat set a reflective tone, inviting personnel to step away from the demands of daily work and enter into a deeper encounter with God and with one another.

The retreat was facilitated by Mr. Michael Acenas, formator at Xavier University–Ateneo de Cagayan, who guided the personnel through moments of silence, personal reflection, and spiritual input. His session on hope encouraged everyone to rediscover its meaning beyond mere optimism, grounding it instead in faith and trust in God’s presence. The orientation was led by S. Maria Encarnacion Orbina, RVM, who helped prepare the personnel for a meaningful and grace-filled experience.

Throughout the day, personnel were invited to reflect on their personal and shared mission, recognizing the importance of hope as a sustaining force in their vocation.

Mr. Michael Acenas emphasized that “ℎ𝑜𝑝𝑒 𝑖𝑠 𝑛𝑜𝑡 𝑗𝑢𝑠𝑡 𝑤𝑎𝑖𝑡𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝑓𝑜𝑟 𝑏𝑒𝑡𝑡𝑒𝑟 𝑑𝑎𝑦𝑠—𝑖𝑡 𝑖𝑠 𝑐ℎ𝑜𝑜𝑠𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝑡𝑜 𝑏𝑒𝑙𝑖𝑒𝑣𝑒, 𝑒𝑣𝑒𝑛 𝑖𝑛 𝑢𝑛𝑐𝑒𝑟𝑡𝑎𝑖𝑛𝑡𝑦, 𝑡ℎ𝑎𝑡 𝐺𝑜𝑑 𝑖𝑠 𝑎𝑙𝑟𝑒𝑎𝑑𝑦 𝑎𝑡 𝑤𝑜𝑟𝑘 𝑤𝑖𝑡ℎ𝑖𝑛 𝑢𝑠 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝑎ℎ𝑒𝑎𝑑 𝑜𝑓 𝑢𝑠.” His message resonated deeply, calling everyone to embrace hope as a conscious and active choice in the midst of life’s challenges.

The first day concluded in a solemn and prayerful Holy Hour at the chapel of Betania Retreat House, where personnel gathered in silence and adoration, offering their reflections, intentions, and renewed commitments to God. This sacred moment provided a fitting close to the day’s journey, deepening the spirit of hope and interior renewal among the SMASN Personnel as they prepared for the continuation of their retreat.
