REDUCING ADMIN TASKS OF 'OVERWORKED' TEACHERS

Department of Education spokesperson Michael Poa on Tuesday said that the agency is planning to reduce or eliminate administrative tasks of "overworked" teachers.

Poa added that DepEd is eyeing to employ more non-teaching staff to cover the administrative tasks that need to be accomplished in the department.

"We will be hiring non-teaching staff to complement and to supplement the workload of the current teachers to enable the teachers to really just focus on teaching and learning," Poa said.

Brigada Eskwela 2022:

The Department of Education (DepEd), through its External Partnerships Service (EPS), shall be conducting the annual implementation of the “BRIGADA ESKWELA (BE) ACTIVITIES” on August 1-26, 2022 with the

theme “Brigada Eskwela: Tugon sa Hamon ng Ligtas na Balik-Aral”.

To mark the start of the implementation, the National Brigada Eskwela Kick-off Program shall be held on August 1, 2022.

This year’s BE shall focus on the following:

1. Implementation of the year-round schools’ maintenance and repair activities, which includes the provision of the immediate needs during disaster or calamities, and the addressing of resource gaps during the reopening of the face-to-face classes;

2. Strengthened partnership engagements with partners and stakeholders that complement DepEd’s efforts to ensure quality basic education;

3. Achievement of significant goals which shall contribute in increasing students’ participation rate, reducing drop-outs and helping improve learning for both learners and community; and

4. Creation of a network of community-based organization to get total community commitment for collaborative programs and projects including the Brigada Pagbasa and other support and volunteer/community-based projects.

While the general policy is that the wearing of a school uniform shall not be required in public schools (as embodied in DepEd Order No. 45 s. 2008), it is necessary to provide guidance on what constitutes proper school attire. The following principles should serve as a guide:

A student’s basic right to go to school, study and learn is of paramount importance and should be respected and promoted at all times.
A student’s attire should reflect respect for the school as an institution for learning.
A student’s attire should not become a cause for discrimination particularly for students belonging to a lower socio-economic status.
Promoting physical hygiene and proper school decorum is part of the teaching- learning process in schools, thus a student’s attire and physical appearance should manifest learnings from this process.

Given the above principles, the suggested attire for elementary and secondary students
may be:
For Boys – Polo shirt/T-shirt with sleeves – any plain color, with a minimum of prints
Pants (long or short) – any color
Footwear – any
For Girls – Dress, skirt and blouse, blouse and pants – any color, any print Footwear-any

For students with existing uniforms, they can still continue wearing them, if they so desire.

Students are discouraged from wearing expensive (signature or designer brands) or flashy clothes, tight-fitting pants/blouses/dresses, mini-skirts, short shorts, blouses with plunging necklines, hip-hop pants for boys, and sleepwear.
