Sunflowers are beautiful and tough creatures!
They draw lead, zinc, manganese, and chromium from the soil around development areas.
This approach is known as phytoremediation, which was started by landscape architect Chris Johnstone on land contaminated by decades of steelworks.
Amazing!
In Australia, sunflowers are being used as more than just a symbol of beauty — they are powerful tools for environmental cleanup. On building sites, these plants are deliberately planted because they have the unique ability to absorb harmful heavy metals like lead, arsenic, and cadmium from contaminated soil.
The process, called phytoremediation, allows plants to draw toxic substances into their roots and stems, slowly cleansing the land. Once the sunflowers mature, they are safely harvested and disposed of, leaving behind healthier soil ready for construction or agriculture.
This eco-friendly approach offers a cost-effective and natural alternative to chemical soil treatments. It also highlights how nature-based solutions can solve human-made problems while beautifying urban landscapes.
By planting sunflowers, Australia demonstrates that green engineering and ecological wisdom can go hand in hand, transforming polluted ground into fertile, safe land for future use.

For everyone's reference regarding road accessibility.
Thank you, Cebu City Mayor Nestor Archival!
CEBU CITY LAUNCHES REAL-TIME ROAD ACCESSIBILITY MAP FOR POST-TYPHOON UPDATES
To ensure safer and more efficient travel amid ongoing response and clearing operations, the Cebu City Government has launched the Road Accessibility Map, a live platform providing real-time updates on road conditions and accessible routes affected by Typhoon Tino. This is an initiative from the Department of Engineering and Public Works.
The map offers verified information to guide both responders and the public in navigating the city safely, especially in areas where road access remains limited due to fallen debris, flooding, or ongoing utility repairs.
As of 11:00 AM, November 7, 2025, the Road Accessibility Map reflects the latest validated data gathered from the Cebu City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CCDRRMO), barangay units, and partner response agencies. Updates are made continuously as new reports are received and confirmed.
The City Government reminds all residents to stay vigilant, follow official advisories, and prioritize safety when traveling through affected areas.

Dear Sage Parents,
We hope this message finds you and your loved ones safe after the devastation brought by Typhoon Tino. We know many of our families in Cebu have experienced difficult days—some with damage to homes, loss of belongings, and uncertainty in the aftermath. Electricity, Internet and overall connectivity remain unstable. Please know that our hearts are with you.
We would like to inform you that classes will resume on Monday, November 10. As we return, our priority will be to ensure a smooth, caring transition for our students.
May we continue to find comfort in one another and hope in the days ahead. Together, we will rebuild—with resilience, kindness, and faith.
Sincerely yours,
Sage Heads and Teachers

CEBU CITY UNDER BLUE ALERT STATUS
The Cebu City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council has placed the city under blue alert status effective at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, November 1, 2025, following the directive of Mayor Nestor Archival as the city prepares for the possible effects of the tropical depression, the City's information office announced on Saturday.
State weather bureau Pagasa said on Saturday that the tropical depression being monitored outside the Philippine area of responsibility is expected to enter PAR on Sunday and will be given the domestic name "Tino."
According to CCDRRMO resident meteorologist Ret. Pagasa Visayas Director Oscar Tabada, "Tino" is expected to make landfall near Tabogon, Cebu with maximum sustained winds of 146 kph around 1:26 p.m. on Tuesday, November 4.
The City Information Office added that all response clusters, division and section heads, volunteer units, and barangay-based disaster teams have been ordered to conduct readiness checks, reposition emergency equipment, and submit situational reports.
