We commemorate the 138th birth anniversary of Don Vicente A. Gullas, the visionary founder of the University of the Visayas, whose unwavering commitment to education laid the foundation for an institution dedicated to service and excellence.

His legacy continues to guide generations of learners, inspiring the University of the Visayas to uphold his ideals and remain true to its mission of transforming lives through education.

The Center for Innovative Education (CIE) conducted a comprehensive Blackboard Orientation this afternoon to equip our newly hired full-time faculty members in the Main Campus with the essential tools and skills to maximize the use of the university’s official learning management system.

Held at the CAS Language Center, the LMS orientation highlighted key features of Blackboard, including course content management, online assessments, and grading tools, ensuring that faculty members are well-prepared to deliver quality instruction and provide timely feedback to students.

A total of 15 newly hired faculty members attended the orientation, composed of seven from the College of Maritime Education, four from the College of Arts and Sciences, two from the College of Education, one from the College of Allied Health Sciences, and one from the College of Criminal Justice Education. The session was facilitated by Ms. Ellah Mae Basmayor and Ms. Johannie Estrera-Pintor of the CIE Department.

This initiative reflects our continuing commitment to support faculty development and to ensure excellence in delivering quality education through innovative teaching platforms.

In its continuous pursuit of academic innovation and digital transformation, the UV - Center for Innovative Education successfully conducted a full-day training session on course micro-credentialing and badging, the institutional course evaluation platform, and recent updates on the Learning Management System (LMS). The event was held with the support of Anthology and featured speakers from Singapore.

The training aimed to enhance the capacity of faculty members and academic staff in integrating emerging educational technologies and practices. Emphasis was placed on the importance of micro-credentialing and digital badging as tools for recognizing specific skills and competencies, which align with the University's commitment to student-centered, outcomes-based education.

Moreover, participants were introduced to enhancements in the course evaluation system, designed to ensure more efficient feedback collection and instructional improvement. Updates on the LMS were also presented, highlighting new features that promote accessibility, interactivity, and seamless content delivery.

Anthology's Account Executive for Asia Caromes Tan and Senior Solutions Engineer for Asia Eng Tang Lau provided valuable international perspectives and best practices.
