Cebu City Don Carlos A. Gothong Memorial Natioal High School opened the celebration of Buwan ng Kasaysayan (History Month) today, August 10, 2026, highlighting this year's official theme: "Hinubog ng Bayan, Dinuyan ng Alon."

The opening ceremonies, which was conducted immediately after this morningโ€™s flag-raising ceremony, featured an active number of students and faculty members who came dressed in traditional Filipiniana and Barong Tagalog attire, transforming the campus into a vibrant display of cultural heritage.

The event included a history trivia game to test students' knowledge of past events and to promote historical awareness. Students actively participated and answered questions about Philippine historical figures and milestones.

Following the trivia competition, the winners of the Best in Traditional Costume were announced and personally awarded by no less than the school principal, Dr. Charlie L. Salve. The Araling Panlipunan department plans to hold more history-related activities throughout the month.

Every August, Filipinos worldwide unite to celebrate Buwan ng Wika (Language Month) and Buwan ng Kasaysayan (History Month). Together, these two significant celebrations promote the traditional Filipino language and culture while encouraging a deep sense of historical awareness among the youth, creating wider opportunities for the next generation to connect with their roots.

History Month is an invitation to tell the stories of the past and ensure they are passed down through the generations. This month carries the weight of some of the most important moments in Philippine history. It is a time to remember the bravery of the Katipuneros and all those whose cries for freedom echoed far louder than their voices. Celebrating Buwan ng Kasaysayan is not just about honoring our Filipino heroes; it is about championing the ideals they fought forโ€”our freedom, dignity, and justice.

As the timeless saying goes, "Ang kabataan ang pag-asa ng bayan!" We should embrace this season as an opportunity to reflect on the past and immerse ourselves in Philippine literature and key events in our history. Let us salute and look up to our famous leaders, while equally remembering the nameless ones whose voices were once silenced, but whose sacrifices built the nation we cherish today.

Anti-Bullying, zero plastic use policies top CCDCAGMNHSโ€™ 2026 agenda

Highlighting Cebu City Don Carlos A. Gothong Memorial National High Schoolโ€™s renewed commitment to creating a safe, enriching, and environmentally-responsible learning environment, Dr. Charlie L. Salve, the school principal, pushed for the strengthened implementation of several key school policies, with the Anti-Bullying and Zero Single-Use Plastic initiatives topping the list, during his State of the School Adress (SOSA) , this afternoon, July 17, 2026, at the Don Albino Gothong Hall.

The event was attended by parents. teachers, students, and other stakeholders. During his talk, Dr. Salve emphasized measures and practices to be enforced in school to prevent bullying and to keep the school free from single-use plastic. Students were reminded to be environmentally responsible and to be vigilant, and report incidents about bullying so immediate actions could be taken. Dr. Salve also encouraged parents and the community to help the school in fostering positive values, stressing strong school-parent-and-community involvement in nurturing a culture of kindness, respect, and discipline among students.

The assembly also featured a short but informative and timely talk on Safety and Security Measures by Police Lt. Fredilson Codilla., Deputy Chief of Police Station 6. Police visibility and involvement is a positive and reassuring gesture within and outside the school vicinity.

Other priority agendas tackled include intensifying studentsโ€™ literacy and numeracy skills through participation in intervention programs such as the Academic Recovery and Accessible Learning (ARAL), Reading Assessment and Intervention for Student Enhancement (RAISE) and the Khan Academy. These initiatives aim to address learning gaps and reinforce studentsโ€™ proficiency and confidence by developing essential reading and mathematical skills needed for their academic success.

Talks on school projects and restorations further ensued. The school administration expressed their gratitude and strong hope for the parentsโ€™ and communityโ€™s collective support and participation in making the school a better and more conducive place for students.
