The Philippine Society for Microbiology, Inc. (PSM) and the Philippine Academy of Microbiology (PAM) joined legislative discussions on Wednesday, August 5, at the House Committee on Civil Service and Professional Regulation, chaired by Rep. Amado Carlos Bolilia IV. The committee officially began deliberations on the substitute measure for House Bills 7312, 8026, and 10159, which seeks to establish a Professional Regulatory Board of Microbiology, set professional standards, and grant registered microbiologists formal legal standing and signatory authority.

PSM was represented by President Dr. rer. nat. Crisanto M. Lopez, alongside PAM Chair Dr. Ena A. Bernal. Both expressed full support for the bill and affirmed that their respective organizations will submit Position Papers to help refine the legislation. Also representing PSM at the hearing were Dr. Howell T. Ho (Liaison Officer), Dr. Ursela G. Bigol (Past President), Mr. Emerson M. Cruz (Auditor), and Ms. Hannah Jane F. Din (Business Manager). Joining Dr. Bernal from PAM were Council of Regents (COR) members Dr. Jessica F. Simbahan (Secretary), Dr. Francisco B. Elegado (Auditor), Dr. Pierangeli G. Vital (PRO), and Dr. Saturnina C. Halos (Member, Committee on Micro Bill).

Dean, School of Arts and Sciences (SAS)

A proud magna cm laude graduate of Bohol Institute of Technology, Prof. Le went on to complete his MA in English and PhD in Applied Linguistics at the Philippine Normal University–Manila. He even enriched his global perspective by taking Spanish courses at Instituto Cervantes, Manila.

His leadership track record speaks volumes:
• Former Dean of the School of Arts and Sciences and Research Director at Philippine Women’s University (PWU) from 2020–2025
• Recognized among the Top 100 Scientists in the Philippines by the AD Scientific Index 2025 (ranked 15th in Linguistics and Literature)
• Cited in the Oxford Handbook of Southeast Asian Englishes (2024)

Beyond academia, Prof. Le also ventured into media and communication, serving as a language consultant to Dr. Boy Abunda and lecturer for The Boy Abunda Talk Workshop.

Dean Le is a newcomer to USJ-R, but one whose experience, expertise, and heart for education are truly at par with the best. With his impressive academic achievements, research contributions, and passion for mentoring, Dean Le embodies the Adelante spirit.
