Feast of the day | November 18
The Feast of the Dedication of the Churches of Saints Peter and Paul honors the two great basilicas in Rome built over the tombs of the apostles Peter and Paul. Saint Peter’s Basilica, originally constructed by Emperor Constantine in 319 on Vatican Hill, began as a simple shrine and evolved into the grand church known today, completed after centuries of rebuilding. Saint Paul’s Outside-the-Walls, also founded by Constantine near the site of Paul’s martyrdom, was once the largest church in Rome until Saint Peter’s was rebuilt. Both churches became major pilgrimage sites, symbolizing the unity and faith of the early Church and the enduring legacy of the apostles.

Saint of the Day | November 17
Saint Elizabeth of Hungary, daughter of the King of Hungary, chose a life of humility, penance, and charity over luxury. Married at 14 to Louis of Thuringia, she was devoted to her husband and to serving the poor, often giving food and aid to those in need. After her husband’s death in the Crusades, she faced hardship and exile but remained steadfast in her faith. She later joined the Secular Franciscan Order and devoted her final years to caring for the sick in a hospital she founded. Known for her compassion and selflessness, she died at only 24 and was canonized four years later. She is the patron saint of Catholic charities and the Secular Franciscan Order.

Saint Martin of Tours, born to pagan parents in Hungary and raised in Italy, was a soldier turned Christian who sought a life of peace and faith. After refusing to fight, declaring himself a “soldier of Christ,” he left the army and became a disciple of Saint Hilary of Poitiers. Living as a monk, Martin founded what is believed to be the first monastery in France and dedicated his life to prayer, teaching, and service. Reluctantly chosen as bishop of Tours, he continued his humble and zealous ministry, defending mercy over violence and opposing the ex*****on of heretics. Deeply devoted and compassionate, Martin prayed at his death that God’s will be done if his people still needed him.

What we have, we share.
BE CAROLINIAN READY | CALL FOR DONATIONS
In the wake of Typhoon Tino, many of our fellow Filipinos are still struggling to recover. As one Carolinian community, let us extend our help and bring hope to those affected.
We are now accepting cash and in-kind donations (bottled water, ready-to-eat food, blankets) at our drop-off points across all campuses.
Every small act of kindness counts. Together, let’s rebuild lives and lift spirits.
