To All Maritime Students

Maintaining professionalism starts with the way we address one another. As maritime cadets, we are future professionals in the maritime industry. It is important that we practice respect and proper conduct even while we are still in training. When addressing your fellow students, please use appropriate forms such as Cadet, their surname, or their first name.

Students wear name plates for a reason—so that we can properly identify and address each other with respect, especially if you do not personally know the person or if you are not close to them. Senior cadets are also reminded to set a good example. Avoid using informal terms like “dong” or “inday” when addressing junior cadets. Instead, communicate with the same level of respect you would expect onboard a vessel.

Professional habits start in the classroom and training grounds. Let us uphold respect, discipline, and professionalism in the way we speak to one another.
