๐๐คUniversity of the Visayas Communication students, alongside broadcasting majors from Cebu Normal University, discovered a more meaningful way to use their time: contributing to the global community. Through the Wiki Pagkat-on sa Sugbo workshop, students were introduced to the Five Pillars of Wikipedia, emphasizing its role as a free, neutral, and respectful encyclopedia for all.
๐ธ Participants learned to edit articles with reliable sources and utilized Wikimedia Commons to upload photos including a personal contribution of the UV campus realizing that even a single image can provide vital wisdom to users worldwide. Beyond the technical skills, a speakerโs story about capturing nighttime imagery challenged the students to see that our Cebuano heritage tells stories just as poetic at night as it does during the day.
๐Beyond the skills, the workshop served as a bridge to reconnect a technology-shattered community, empowering this generation to share their history and creativity as a legacy for the future.

CEBU CITY โ As ๐ฑ๐ณ๐ช๐ต๐ช๐ต๐ช๐ต echoed through the city for Sinulog 2026, University of the Visayas (UV) Communication students stepped into the frontlines, volunteering for various media networks including dotTV, SunStar, and MyTV.
For first-year volunteers at dotTV, including Carla Mae T. Taneo, the festival was a baptism of fire. They served as floor directors for dotTV Live, worked as researchers, interviewed contingent choreographers, and assisted cameramen. The students described the experience as an eye-opening lesson in live production that boosted their professional confidence.
Sophomore volunteers faced the tormenting heat and exhausting long walks, yet they described the ordeal as fulfilling to the heart.
"Kapoy sa lawas, yet fulfilling sa heart," remarked second-year student Christine Jane Flores, noting that the physical toll was a small price for unlocking core memories and building lasting bonds.
Meanwhile, third-year students at SunStar Cebu, such as Brigette Cones Dalagan, sharpened their technical skills and media responsibility, gaining hands-on exposure to one of the countryโs largest cultural events.
The fourth-year seniors at MyTV, including Lilian Gotong, were so immersed in collecting content they lost track of time. They witnessed the grit of the festival firsthand, observing people collapse from the heatโa reminder of the endurance required in the field. When the final fireworks display signaled the end of the coverage, the team shared a collective sense of relief: "YEEEYYY HUMANA JUD!"
The UV Communication student body expressed deep gratitude for the opportunity to work alongside industry professionals, citing these experiences as vital milestones in their journey as future media practitioners.

Our UV Communication family recently spent an incredible afternoon with our friends from Jissen Womenโs University, Japan, for a virtual cultural exchange!
From learning the art of using chopsticks and the history of Japanese sweets to sharing the resilient spirit of Cebuano Bayanihan and our love for street food, every moment was a celebration of what makes us unique and what brings us together.
Distance was no match for the warmth and gratitude felt by everyone!

โจToday, we remember Dr. Josรฉ Rizal not just as a hero in textbooks, but as a student, writer, and thinker who believed that the pen could awaken a nation.
๐His courage reminds us that education is not just for passing exams, but for questioning, speaking up, and serving the people.
As todayโs students, may we use our voices wisely, bravely, and truthfully just as Rizal did.
