LOOK | No work from May 6-8 for ASEAN Summit

Work operations at Cebu Normal University (CNU) are suspended following the government’s declaration of May 6–8 as special non-working days in parts of Cebu for the 48th Association of Southeast Asian Nations Summit (ASEAN) Summit.

The declaration, issued through Proclamation No. 1239, places Cebu City, Mandaue City, Lapu-Lapu City, and the Municipality of Cordova under special non-working status to ensure smooth logistics, security, and traffic management for the international gathering.

In compliance, work operations at CNU today, May 6, will only run until 12:00 noon.

University offices will then remain closed from May 7 to May 8, in line with the holiday declaration.

Regular operations, including administrative work and academic activities, will resume on Monday, May 11.

The ASEAN Summit is expected to bring together leaders from Southeast Asian nations to discuss regional cooperation, economic growth, and security, placing Cebu once again at the center of a major international event.

ADVISORY | Application period for several undergraduate programs extended until this week

The application period for selected undergraduate programs has been extended, giving aspiring students more time to complete their submissions for the upcoming academic intake.

The extended application period will run from today, March 16, to March 19, 2026 for all programs under the College of Computing, Artificial Intelligence, and Sciences (CCAIS) and the College of Culture, Arts, and Sports (CCAS).

Also extended until Friday, March 20, is the Bachelor of Library and Information Science (BLIS) program of the College of Public Governance, Safety and Sustainability (CPGSS).

University officials urged interested applicants to complete and submit their applications within the extended period to ensure they are considered for admission.

The College of Culture, Arts, and Sports in collaboration with SAmanahan ng mga G**o at Iba pang Propesyonal sa WIKA (will be hosting the 1st International Research Conference of Culture, Arts, and Sports (IRCCAS) with the theme "Multidisciplinary practices, innovation, preservation of language, culture, and sports towards the new era of methods and technologies in research" on August 27, 28, & 29, 2025 via Hybrid (Zoom and Face to Face) at Idea Knowledge Center (IKC), Cebu Normal University, Osmena Blvd., Cebu City.

The conference features seven (7) thematic streams for research paper presentation, reflecting the integration of innovation, preservation, and interdisciplinary approaches:

1. Innovative Practices in Communication and Media
2. Reimagining Filipino Studies in the Digital Age
3. Transformations in Sports, Physical Education, Exercise Science, and Performing Arts
4. Humanities in the Era of Innovation and Preservation
5. Gender, Human Development, and Sustainability in Cultural Contexts
6. Culture, Heritage, and Indigenous Knowledge Systems –
7. Language and Literature in Multilingual and Multimodal Landscapes

The conference is open to all faculty in basic education and tertiary education, researchers, research directors, graduate and undergraduate students here and abroad.

Abstract of not more than of 250 words shall be emailed to [email protected] with the subject heading ““STREAM NO_LAST NAME_ABSTRACT TITLE” (ex. 2_GARCIA_Dances in the Philippines and it's Context). Deadline for submission of abstract will be August 8, 2025.
