When the Philippines hosted the Gala Dinner for the 48th ASEAN Summit at the Mactan Expo on May 8, 2026, the event demanded more than elegant décor and fine dining. Diplomatic gatherings follow strict international standards where service must be precise, organized, and professional before presidents, prime ministers, diplomats, and foreign delegates.

In the middle of this high-pressure environment, Hospitality Management students from the University of Cebu Banilad and the University of Cebu Lapu-Lapu and Mandaue took on important service roles alongside the Laguna Group and Green Concepts and Events. They were not simply students completing training hours. They became part of the team responsible for making one of the country’s biggest international events run smoothly.

The ASEAN Gala Dinner showed the real meaning of hospitality. Luxury service is not only about smiles and good presentation. It also requires discipline, awareness, professionalism, and the ability to stay calm under pressure. These are skills that cannot be learned through textbooks alone, but through real experience in demanding environments.

This is why students planning to enter the hospitality industry should carefully choose where they study. In the University of Cebu system, Hospitality Management students are exposed early to real industry experiences that challenge both their skills and character. Opportunities like the ASEAN Summit Gala Dinner help prepare them for the realities of global hospitality even before graduation.

The performance of UC’s HM students during the ASEAN Gala Dinner sends a strong message: the University of Cebu is not only teaching hospitality. It is training future hospitality professionals who are ready to perform in the world of luxury and international service.
