History in Davao: The Liloan Golf "Miracle" at the 77th PAL Interclub 🏆

They say golf is a game of inches, but at the 77th PAL Interclub in Davao, it was a game of pure heart.

Representing Liloan Golf by Duros Land with pride and backed by DUROS Group and 7Core Communications, Inc., the Liloan Golf Team didn’t just show up to compete they showed up to make history.

In a field of veterans, we fielded a hungry squad, including two rookies who proved that grit matters more than experience.

The Surge: Days 1 to 3

The "Sportswriters Division" is known for its drama, and this year was no exception. By the end of Day 3, Liloan had built a massive 24-stroke lead over Team Dole Kalsangi. This was largely thanks to the "Top Guns" of the third round:

* Cloyd Dedicatoria (26 points) 7Core's very own.
* Anthony Milan (26 points)

We went into the final day looking untouchable. But in the PAL Interclub, no lead is ever truly safe.

The Final Day Drama: A Lead Evaporating

As the sun rose over Apo Golf & Country Club for Day 4, the pressure mounted. We fielded our final lineup: Carlo Barte, Hilario Mantujac III, Max Dagdan, Keano Pamaos, and our anchor, Eugene Andales.

Then, the unthinkable happened.
The heavy hitters from Davao City Golf Club began to chip away at our lead. By the time Keano Pamaos submitted his scorecard, that 24-stroke cushion had vanished. We were leading by only ONE stroke.

The Final Hole: A Test of Wills

The atmosphere at Hole 18 was suffocating. Families and teammates gathered at the gallery, faces etched with anxiety. The title came down to the final pairing: Liloan’s Eugene Andales vs. Davao’s Marko Fuentes.

Both players hammered great drives down the Par 5. But then, the notorious Apo winds—swirling left to right—took control.

The Disaster: Both Eugene and Marko's approach shots were swallowed by the right-side bunkers.

The gallery went silent. Eugene struggled, failing to clear the sand on his first attempt. By his fifth shot, he was on the fringe, staring down a 15-foot putt just to save a bogey. Meanwhile, the Davao player had safely reached the green with a 10-foot look at the cup.

Eugene stepped up. A downhill, right-to-left breaker. He putted, but the ball stayed out, leaving him with a 3-foot "pickup" (X). Davao saved their bogey.

The "Silent" Victory

Captain Ian Mantuhac stood by the green, shoulders slumped, fearing the worst. The math in his head was spinning. As the players walked off to sign their cards, Ian pulled Eugene aside, his voice barely a whisper:

"How was your score compared to the Davao player?"

Eugene looked him in the eye and calmly replied: "I played better than him. I scored 22."

The realization hit like a lightning bolt. "WE GOT IT!" Ian shouted, the frustration transforming into pure elation.

The Champions

For the first time in the 77 years of the PAL Interclub, Liloan Golf has grabbed the Championship and secured a podium finish this year, taking home the trophy in one of the most suspenseful finishes in tournament history.

Thank you to our players, our families, and our sponsor Duros Group and 7Core Communications Inc. for believing in this team.

Liloan Golf, we’re bringing the trophy home!
