The Cebu Technological University-Main Campus Biology Society is pleased to announce a significant academic milestone. The comprehensive field guide titled, "𝘔𝘢𝘯𝘢𝘯𝘢𝘱 𝘴𝘢 𝘉𝘢𝘬𝘩𝘢𝘸𝘢𝘯: 𝘈 𝘍𝘪𝘦𝘭𝘥 𝘎𝘶𝘪𝘥𝘦 𝘵𝘰 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘈𝘳𝘣𝘰𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘭 𝘐𝘯𝘴𝘦𝘤𝘵𝘴 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘖𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳 𝘍𝘢𝘶𝘯𝘢 𝘰𝘧 𝘔𝘢𝘯𝘨𝘳𝘰𝘷𝘦 𝘗𝘳𝘰𝘱𝘢𝘨𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘐𝘯𝘧𝘰𝘳𝘮𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘊𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘦𝘳 (𝘔𝘗𝘐𝘊), 𝘋𝘢𝘺-𝘢𝘴, 𝘊𝘰𝘳𝘥𝘰𝘷𝘢, 𝘊𝘦𝘣𝘶." has been officially granted a Certificate of Copyright Registration by the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines (IPOPHL) and the National Library of the Philippines.

This publication marks the second copyrighted output deposited to the National Library by the department's undergraduate students on behalf of the MPIC. Developed as a direct output of the Biological Resource Management curriculum, this guide exemplifies how rigorous, research-based fieldwork can yield tangible and impactful scholarly contributions.

As part of the university's commitment to community extension, the field guide will be formally presented to the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Cordova. This initiative aims to assist the municipality in its efforts to develop the Mangrove Propagation and Information Center in Barangay Day-as into a sustainable, community-based ecotourism destination.

Under the theme “𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗦𝗰𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗟𝗶𝗳𝗲, 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗖𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗼 𝗦𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗲: 𝗛𝗼𝗻𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗣𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗳 𝗔𝘀𝗽𝗶𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗕𝗶𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴𝗶𝘀𝘁𝘀”, the Department of Biology held its second Candle Lighting and Pinning Ceremony at the CebuTech Gymnatorium on May 19, 2026.

This milestone is another addition to the multiple academic achievements that the third-year Biology students have achieved in their three years in the program. This event marks a symbolic transition from students learning the foundations of ecology to future biologists beginning to embrace the roles they have long been preparing for.

As they donned their scrubs and pinned their badges above their hearts, they stood ready to step forward with purpose, carrying the passion to serve and the determination to make a difference.

The 𝐁𝐢𝐨𝐥𝐨𝐠𝐲 𝐒𝐨𝐜𝐢𝐞𝐭𝐲, in partnership with 𝐏𝐂𝐆𝐀 and 𝐆𝐄𝐍𝐏𝐀𝐂𝐓, successfully conducted a collaborative mangrove planting activity aimed at advancing environmental conservation and coastal ecosystem restoration.

The initiative gathered students, volunteers, and environmental advocates in a unified effort to strengthen biodiversity and support the protection of coastal communities. Through the planting of mangrove seedlings, participants contributed to vital ecological functions such as reducing coastal erosion, providing habitat for diverse marine organisms, and enhancing ecosystem resilience against environmental disturbances.

Beyond a tree-planting activity, the collaboration underscored the power of collective action and community engagement in driving meaningful environmental change. As partner organizations continue to work together in support of conservation efforts, each mangrove planted stands as a lasting symbol of responsibility, unity, and hope for future generations. 🍀

𝐁𝐄𝐂𝐎𝐌𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐇𝐔𝐌𝐀𝐍

Held at the USC Talamban Campus on May 17, 2026, the USC x BIOSOC Team Building became a meaningful space for growth, reflection, and connection came together. More than just a day of activities, it was an opportunity to pause, reflect, and better understand our roles within the organization.

Each session and activity was intentionally designed to encourage self-awareness—pushing us to look inward and recognize how our individual strengths, actions, and perspectives can contribute to the growth of Biology Society as a whole. Through these reflections, we are reminded that building a stronger organization begins with improving ourselves.

Carrying the theme, “𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵 𝗨𝗻𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗶𝘁𝘆-𝗟𝗲𝗱 𝗘𝘅𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗦𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗗𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗽𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁,” the symposium gathered researchers, educators, extension implementors, and international institutions to discuss innovative and sustainable community-based initiatives.

His presentation entitled, “𝗦𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗴𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘀𝗰𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗲𝗱𝘂𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗶𝗻 𝗯𝗮𝘀𝗶𝗰 𝗲𝗱𝘂𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵 𝗮𝗻 𝗛𝗘𝗜-𝗹𝗲𝗱 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗲𝘅𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗺 𝗼𝗻 𝗽𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗽𝗮𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆 𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗿𝘀,” emphasized the role of higher education institutions in empowering educators and strengthening science education through community extension initiatives.

Students have always been associated with long lectures, experiments in laboratories, and even sleepless nights spent reading through lecture notes. Although this is part of the student experience, the Biology Society of Cebu Technological University proved otherwise. The organization has shown that, aside from the academic side within the university, there are many more side quests beyond the gate that make student life much more interesting.

The most notable example of this was their partnership with Zero Ten Park Cebu. It was not only a venue or sponsor but also played a huge role in supporting the organization. With their help, events organized by the students became more interactive for other students who wanted to be involved in Biology, though not necessarily in an academic way.

This became possible through various events such as 𝐁𝐢𝐨𝐁𝐮𝐳𝐳, 𝐁𝐈𝐎𝐥𝐲𝐦𝐩𝐢𝐜𝐬, and other 𝐜𝐚𝐦𝐩𝐮𝐬 𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐬, where students were encouraged to collaborate, think creatively, and enjoy themselves at the same time. Through these activities, members had the chance to boost their confidence and build friendships within the Biology Society.

Another important aspect of the collaboration was the support from the wider community. Having organizations willing to partner with students can greatly affect how projects are managed and how students experience campus life. This collaboration was especially meaningful for several members because it gave them the opportunity to learn in a different environment.

All things considered, it is safe to say that the collaboration between Zero Ten Park and the Biology Society was created to support students in various ways.
