“Life can be heavy, especially if you try to carry it all at once. Part of growing up and moving into new chapters of your life is about ‘catch and release’. What I mean by that is knowing what things to keep and what things to release. You can’t carry all things.
Decide what is yours to hold and let the rest go. Oftentimes the good things in your life are lighter anyway so there’s more room for them.” -Taylor Swift
Long live and congratulations class of 2024.

CebuCon awards UV archi' students
The Cebu Construction (CebuCon) Build expo 2024 held the inaugural event of CEBUCON Pasidungog Architecture Thesis Award honoring the Top 3 Architecture Thesis from five Architecture schools in Cebu last June 7, 2024 at the Sky Hall entrance, SM Seaside Cebu City.
During the event, visitors had the opportunity to explore the latest innovations, products, and services in the construction industry at the exhibition.
The attendees were welcomed by Ar. Lilibeth Ducut-Abais, and an inspiring keynote speech was given by the 17th Likha Golden Medal Awardee Ar. Jose Mari Cañizares.
Shortly after, a recognition of the Top 3 Architecture thesis awards for each University was commenced.
The University of the Visayas (UV) awardees are as follows:
The Gold Award was awarded to the thesis “Sponge City Planning: Potential Strategies for Lower Tipolo, Mandaue City” of Surin A. Dadol, Audrey Janceil B. Seno, and Zabdiel Mae A. Quisio.
[The] vision for our thesis is to develop innovative strategies that address the area's unique challenges related to urban flooding and water management. This involves thorough research to understand local conditions, collaboration with stakeholders, and the integration of green infrastructure and water-sensitive design principles," Mr. Dadol said in an interview with The Visayanian Publication (TVP).
The Silver Award was awarded to the thesis “Exploring Carbon Negative Concept: A Pruposed Mixed-Use Building with a Botanical Conservatory in Cebu as Global Warning Response” of Mae Kyla D. Cañon, Kristy P. Ebillo, and Fiah Carylle O. Gallo.
"Our main goal was not just designing but also considering sustainability," Ms. Ebillo shared.
The Bronze Award was awarded to the thesis “Utilizing Storm Water for non-potable use and sustainable cooling system in a mixed-use building in cebu city” of Teddy T. Sayson, Marie Deserie H. Escandalo, and Zandalee M. Ortega.
"It [stood] out for its innovative approach to water conservation and energy efficiency, addressing local environmental challenges while promoting sustainability." Mr. Sayson said.
The Event Pasidungog Thesis Award not only acknowledged academic achievements but also motivated aspiring architecture students to create thesis work beyond mere compliance and encourages awardees to continue striving for excellence on their field.
UV Dean of the College of Engineering, Technology, and Architecture (CETA) Dr. Richard Saing told TVP, "Conducting research helps nurture the raw talent of the CETA students to transform their innovative ideas into written words, not merely for the sake of compliance but to empower them to be an architect of their own."
The attendees were the Professional Architects and Engineers, Deans of the Architecture Departments, visitors, parents of the awardees, and the graduating students of the 5 architecture schools.
This event was organized by La Ducut Abais Innovation Inc. with the hardwares consolidated Inc. and Badge sponsor, Most Professional Tools (MPT).
