Did you know the proprioception is commonly known as our sixth sense?
Proprioceptive activities can be quite important for kids with sensory issues, as they can help develop and improve a child's body awareness, motor control, and coordination.
Proprioception refers to the sense of knowing where your body is in space, and it relies on the feedback provided by proprioceptors, which are sensory receptors located in your muscles, joints, and tendons. Children with sensory issues, such as those with Sensory Processing Disorder (SPD), autism, or ADHD, might have difficulties with proprioception.
Proprioceptive activities can help these children by:
✔️Enhancing body awareness
✔️Improving motor skills
✔️Supporting self-regulation
✔️Boosting confidence and self-esteem
