CTU IPTBM successfully conducted the 𝐂𝐚𝐩𝐚𝐜𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐁𝐮𝐢𝐥𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐨𝐧 𝐈𝐏 𝐕𝐚𝐥𝐮𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐅𝐚𝐢𝐫𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐎𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐏𝐫𝐞𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 on 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐡 𝟑𝟎–𝟑𝟏, 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔, at the 𝐂𝐞𝐛𝐮 𝐆𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐇𝐨𝐭𝐞𝐥 𝐢𝐧 𝐂𝐞𝐛𝐮 𝐂𝐢𝐭𝐲.

The two-day training brought together faculty members, researchers, and technology transfer personnel from various CTU campuses to enhance institutional capabilities in intellectual property valuation and the preparation of fairness opinions, which are essential components of the commercialization of research outputs and technologies.

The activity was implemented through the CTU IPTBM initiative under the RAISE Program funded by the Department of Science and Technology – Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development (DOST–PCAARRD). The event was also conducted in partnership with the National Research Council of the Philippines (NRCP), further strengthening collaboration between national research institutions and higher education institutions in promoting innovation and technology management.

The program formally opened with welcome remarks from 𝐃𝐫. 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐨 𝐏. 𝐑𝐞𝐛𝐮𝐜𝐚𝐬 𝐉𝐫., 𝑂𝐼𝐶 – 𝑃𝑟𝑜𝑗𝑒𝑐𝑡 𝐿𝑒𝑎𝑑𝑒𝑟 𝑜𝑓 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝐼𝑃𝑇𝐵𝑀, who highlighted the importance of strengthening the university’s capacity in intellectual property management and valuation to support research commercialization. A special message was delivered by 𝐃𝐫. 𝐀𝐝𝐫𝐢𝐚𝐧 𝐏. 𝐘𝐛𝐚𝐧𝐞𝐳, a 𝐵𝑜𝑎𝑟𝑑 𝑀𝑒𝑚𝑏𝑒𝑟 𝑜𝑓 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑁𝑎𝑡𝑖𝑜𝑛𝑎𝑙 𝑅𝑒𝑠𝑒𝑎𝑟𝑐ℎ 𝐶𝑜𝑢𝑛𝑐𝑖𝑙 𝑜𝑓 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑃ℎ𝑖𝑙𝑖𝑝𝑝𝑖𝑛𝑒𝑠, who emphasized the role of collaboration and knowledge sharing in advancing the country’s research and innovation ecosystem.

The lecture sessions on Intellectual Property Valuation were facilitated by 𝐃𝐫. 𝐋𝐞𝐨𝐦𝐚𝐫 𝐁. 𝐕𝐢𝐫𝐚𝐝𝐨𝐫 of 𝐻𝑜𝑙𝑦 𝑁𝑎𝑚𝑒 𝑈𝑛𝑖𝑣𝑒𝑟𝑠𝑖𝑡𝑦, 𝑇𝑎𝑔𝑏𝑖𝑙𝑎𝑟𝑎𝑛 𝐶𝑖𝑡𝑦, 𝐵𝑜ℎ𝑜𝑙. Dr. Virador discussed the fundamental concepts and methodologies of IP valuation, including the income, cost, and market approaches, which are widely used to determine the economic value of technologies and intellectual assets. Participants also engaged in hands-on workshops where they applied these valuation approaches in simulated scenarios and presented their outputs.

On the second day, the session on Fairness Opinion Report (FOR) Issuance was delivered by 𝐌𝐬. 𝐃𝐚𝐲𝐢𝐞𝐧 𝐓. 𝐋𝐢𝐳𝐚𝐝𝐚, 𝑆𝑐𝑖𝑒𝑛𝑐𝑒 𝑅𝑒𝑠𝑒𝑎𝑟𝑐ℎ 𝑆𝑝𝑒𝑐𝑖𝑎𝑙𝑖𝑠𝑡 𝐼𝐼 𝑓𝑟𝑜𝑚 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑇𝑒𝑐ℎ𝑛𝑖𝑐𝑎𝑙 𝑂𝑝𝑒𝑟𝑎𝑡𝑖𝑜𝑛𝑠 𝐷𝑖𝑣𝑖𝑠𝑖𝑜𝑛 𝑜𝑓 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝐷𝑂𝑆𝑇 𝑅𝑒𝑔𝑖𝑜𝑛𝑎𝑙 𝑂𝑓𝑓𝑖𝑐𝑒 𝑉𝐼𝐼. Her discussion focused on the principles, process, and importance of fairness opinion reports in ensuring transparency and objectivity in technology transfer agreements and valuation-related decisions.

Through this initiative, Cebu Technological University continues to strengthen its institutional capabilities in intellectual property management, technology valuation, and research commercialization. The activity also reinforces the university’s commitment to building a strong innovation ecosystem that maximizes the value of research outputs for societal and economic development.

On 𝗦𝗲𝗽𝘁𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿 𝟭, 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟱, Cebu Technological University (CTU) Daanbantayan Campus hosted the 𝗣𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗗𝗿𝗮𝗳𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗙𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘇𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗳 𝗧𝗥𝗟 𝗔𝘀𝘀𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁, 𝗧𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗻𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴𝘆 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗳𝗲𝗿, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗟𝗶𝗰𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗔𝗴𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝘀𝗲𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗶𝗻𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗮𝗱𝗼𝗽𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀. The event highlighted CTU’s strong commitment to bridging academic innovation and community enterprise, particularly through the incubation of local startups and cooperatives. It brought together the Daanbantayan-based incubatees, namely 𝗚𝗣𝗔 𝗙𝗼𝗼𝗱 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗱𝘂𝗰𝘁𝘀 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴, 𝗚𝗿𝗮𝘀𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗚𝗿𝗮𝗰𝗲, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗗𝗕 𝗨𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗣𝗪𝗗 𝗚𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝗠𝗲𝗿𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗶𝘀𝗲. Representing these enterprises were 𝗣𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗴𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗮 𝗔𝗿𝗾𝘂𝗶𝗼 (𝘎𝘗𝘈 𝘍𝘰𝘰𝘥 𝘗𝘳𝘰𝘥𝘶𝘤𝘵𝘴 𝘛𝘳𝘢𝘥𝘪𝘯𝘨), 𝗔𝗿𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗱𝗮 𝗣. 𝗥𝗼𝘀𝗲𝗹𝗹 (𝘋𝘉 𝘜𝘯𝘪𝘵𝘦𝘥 𝘗𝘞𝘋 𝘎𝘦𝘯𝘦𝘳𝘢𝘭 𝘔𝘦𝘳𝘤𝘩𝘢𝘯𝘥𝘪𝘴𝘦), and 𝗖𝗮𝗿𝗹 𝗔𝗻𝗴𝗲𝗹𝗮 𝗥𝗼𝗱𝗿𝗶𝗴𝗼 (𝘎𝘳𝘢𝘴𝘴 𝘵𝘰 𝘎𝘳𝘢𝘤𝘦).

These incubatees engaged in discussions and collaboration with CTU inventors whose innovations are on track for technology transfer and eventual commercialization. The university inventors included 𝗗𝗿. 𝗠𝗼𝗻𝗶𝗳𝗲𝗹 𝗚. 𝗖𝗮𝗹𝗱𝗲𝗿𝗼𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗗𝗿. 𝗥𝗲𝗰𝗲𝗶𝗹 𝗔𝗻𝗻 𝗧. 𝗖𝘂𝗹𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗼, 𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗯𝘆 𝗠𝘀. 𝗝𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗮 𝗗. 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗮𝗯𝗶. Together, they worked on finalizing intellectual property documents and assessing technology readiness levels (TRL), ensuring that the technologies are adequately prepared for adoption by their intended partners.

This milestone reflects CTU’s proactive role in strengthening its innovation ecosystem, fostering industry-academic partnerships, and creating livelihood opportunities for local enterprises. By enabling smoother pathways for technology licensing and commercialization, CTU continues to empower startups and community groups to scale their operations while reinforcing the university’s contribution to regional socio-economic development.

𝗖𝗲𝗯𝘂 𝗖𝗶𝘁𝘆, 𝗣𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗽𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀 — The 𝗗𝗲𝗽𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝗦𝗰𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗧𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗻𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴𝘆 – 𝗦𝗰𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗘𝗱𝘂𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗜𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗶𝘁𝘂𝘁𝗲 (𝗗𝗢𝗦𝗧-𝗦𝗘𝗜) successfully staged the much-anticipated 𝗗𝗲𝗺𝗼 𝗗𝗮𝘆 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟱 𝗦𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗹𝗮𝗿𝘀 𝗧𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗻𝗼𝗽𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗲𝘂𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗺 (𝗦𝗧𝗧𝗣) on 𝗔𝘂𝗴𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝟮𝟵, 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟱, at 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗼 𝗣𝗼𝗹𝗼 𝗛𝗼𝘁𝗲𝗹, 𝗖𝗲𝗯𝘂 𝗖𝗶𝘁𝘆.

The event gathered young innovators from across Region VII, culminating weeks of intensive training and mentorship under the STTP. With the preliminaries completed, Demo Day served as the scholars’ platform to pitch their bold, research-driven business ideas before a panel of evaluators and stakeholders in innovation and entrepreneurship.

Representing Cebu Technological University (CTU) were 𝗘𝗻𝗴𝗿. 𝗡𝗮𝗼𝗺𝗶 𝗔. 𝗕𝗮𝗷𝗮𝗼, 𝗗𝗿. 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗼 𝗣. 𝗥𝗲𝗯𝘂𝗰𝗮𝘀, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗳. 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗹𝗼𝘂 𝗖. 𝗚𝗼𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘇 from the 𝘙𝘦𝘨𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘢𝘭 𝘈𝘛𝘉𝘐 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘐𝘗𝘛𝘉𝘔 unit, who served as one of the members of the judging panel. Their participation highlighted CTU’s active role in advancing technopreneurship and supporting the region’s growing innovation ecosystem.

Three outstanding innovations earned the 𝗖𝗲𝗯𝘂 𝗧𝗲𝗰𝗵 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗹𝗯𝗹𝗮𝘇𝗲𝗿 𝗔𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗱, namely: 𝗦𝗶𝗽𝗻𝗮𝘆𝗮𝗻, 𝗣𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗘𝗰𝗵𝗼, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗦𝘄𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗦𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁.

As the leading incubator in Central Visayas, CTU is committed to providing the awardees with a one-year incubation program. This program will further guide the young technopreneurs in refining their technologies, scaling their startups, and bridging the gap between research and market readiness.

The STTP Demo Day not only showcased the creativity and resilience of the scholars but also reaffirmed the role of academic institutions like CTU in nurturing the next wave of innovators who can drive sustainable development and technological advancement in the region.

Baclayon, Bohol — The Bohol Island State University (BISU), through the Regional Agri-Aqua System Innovation Enhancement (RAISE) Program in Central Visayas, spearheaded the 𝐑𝐞𝐠𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠-𝐖𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐞𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐩 𝐨𝐧 𝐂𝐌𝐈 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐏𝐥𝐚𝐧 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐒𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐏𝐥𝐚𝐧 held on August 27–29, 2025 at the Alta Bohol Garden Resort, Baclayon, Bohol.
Representing Cebu Technological University (CTU) were members of the 𝐑𝐞𝐠𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐀𝐓𝐁𝐈 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐈𝐏𝐓𝐁𝐌 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐣𝐞𝐜𝐭 𝐭𝐞𝐚𝐦, including 𝐷𝑟. 𝐴𝑑𝑟𝑖𝑎𝑛 𝑃. 𝑌𝑏𝑎𝑛̃𝑒𝑧 (𝑃𝑟𝑜𝑗𝑒𝑐𝑡 𝐿𝑒𝑎𝑑𝑒𝑟), 𝐸𝑛𝑔𝑟. 𝑁𝑎𝑜𝑚𝑖 𝐴. 𝐵𝑎𝑗𝑎𝑜, 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝑃𝑟𝑜𝑓. 𝑀𝑎𝑟𝑙𝑜𝑢 𝐶. 𝐺𝑜𝑑𝑖𝑛𝑒𝑧, who actively participated in the writeshop alongside their regional counterparts.
The three-day activity also brought together 17 other participants representing the partner institutions of RAISE in the region. The writeshop focused on enhancing the skills of participants in designing effective communication strategies and sustainability frameworks for their respective CMI projects.
Serving as the resource speaker was 𝐷𝑟. 𝑃𝑎𝑢𝑙 𝐽𝑒𝑟𝑠𝑒𝑦 𝐺. 𝐿𝑒𝑟𝑜𝑛, 𝑆𝑒𝑛𝑖𝑜𝑟 𝑆𝑐𝑖𝑒𝑛𝑐𝑒 𝑅𝑒𝑠𝑒𝑎𝑟𝑐ℎ 𝑆𝑝𝑒𝑐𝑖𝑎𝑙𝑖𝑠𝑡 𝑜𝑓 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝐴𝑝𝑝𝑙𝑖𝑒𝑑 𝐶𝑜𝑚𝑚𝑢𝑛𝑖𝑐𝑎𝑡𝑖𝑜𝑛 𝐷𝑖𝑣𝑖𝑠𝑖𝑜𝑛 𝑜𝑓 𝐷𝑂𝑆𝑇-𝑃𝐶𝐴𝐴𝑅𝑅𝐷. Dr. Leron provided comprehensive inputs on communication strategies, stakeholder engagement, and long-term project sustainability, guiding participants through structured workshops and collaborative sessions.
The training-writeshop is part of RAISE’s continuing efforts to enhance collaboration, knowledge sharing, and capacity building among agri-aqua innovation stakeholders in Central Visayas. By equipping project teams with practical tools for communication and sustainability planning, the program ensures that initiatives under RAISE remain impactful and relevant beyond their implementation period.

Among the graduates were 𝐃𝐫. 𝐀𝐝𝐫𝐢𝐚𝐧 𝐏. 𝐘𝐛𝐚𝐧̃𝐞𝐳, 𝑃𝑟𝑜𝑗𝑒𝑐𝑡 𝐿𝑒𝑎𝑑𝑒𝑟 𝑜𝑓 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑅𝑒𝑔𝑖𝑜𝑛𝑎𝑙 𝐴𝑔𝑟𝑖-𝐴𝑞𝑢𝑎 𝑇𝑒𝑐ℎ𝑛𝑜𝑙𝑜𝑔𝑦 𝐵𝑢𝑠𝑖𝑛𝑒𝑠𝑠 𝐼𝑛𝑐𝑢𝑏𝑎𝑡𝑜𝑟 (𝐴𝑇𝐵𝐼) 𝑖𝑛 𝐶𝑒𝑛𝑡𝑟𝑎𝑙 𝑉𝑖𝑠𝑎𝑦𝑎𝑠, and 𝐄𝐧𝐠𝐫. 𝐍𝐚𝐨𝐦𝐢 𝐀. 𝐁𝐚𝐣𝐚𝐨, 𝑃𝑟𝑜𝑗𝑒𝑐𝑡 𝑆𝑡𝑎𝑓𝑓 𝐼𝐼𝐼 𝑜𝑓 𝐶𝑇𝑈’𝑠 𝐼𝑛𝑡𝑒𝑙𝑙𝑒𝑐𝑡𝑢𝑎𝑙 𝑃𝑟𝑜𝑝𝑒𝑟𝑡𝑦 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝑇𝑒𝑐ℎ𝑛𝑜𝑙𝑜𝑔𝑦 𝐵𝑢𝑠𝑖𝑛𝑒𝑠𝑠 𝑀𝑎𝑛𝑎𝑔𝑒𝑚𝑒𝑛𝑡 (𝐼𝑃𝑇𝐵𝑀) office. Both completed the rigorous two-part training and presented their respective IP valuation reports, demonstrating CTU’s commitment to strengthening intellectual property management and advancing agri-aqua technology commercialization in the region.

A total of 57 participants graduated from the program, which was conducted in two phases—first in July at the University of the Philippines Visayas (UPV), Iloilo City, and concluded this August at Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University (DMMMSU), La Union. The training was designed to build the capacity of regional innovators and technology managers in valuing intellectual property assets, a vital step in bridging research outputs to market opportunities. Aside from CTU, other state universities and colleges (SUCs) in Central Visayas also successfully completed the training, further strengthening the region’s pool of IP valuation and commercialization champions.

The 10-day training was facilitated by Ms. Mary Jade Roxas-Divinagracia, Managing Partner for Deals and Corporate Finance at PwC Philippines’ Isla Lipana & Co., who provided participants with comprehensive knowledge, practical tools, and methodologies on IP valuation and commercialization strategies.

𝐀𝐮𝐠𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝟕, 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟓 – Cebu Technological University (CTU) is paving the way for agri-aqua innovation through a new partnership through incubation with 𝐁𝐞𝐚𝐧𝐚𝐰𝐚𝐤𝐞 𝐂𝐨𝐟𝐟𝐞𝐞 𝐒𝐡𝐨𝐩, a rising Cebu-based business owned by Mr. James Ford S. Forney.

This engagement was initiated and organized by CTU's ATBI-IPTBM team, composed of Dr. Mario P. Rebucas Jr., Engr. Naomi A. Bajao, Mr. Jessie Cole, and Ms. Sheila Mae C. Edoloverio, in close coordination with CTU Faculty Technology Generators Dr. Francis Dindo G. De Lara and Dr. Receil Ann T. Cullano.

This initiative is part of CTU’s Agri-Aqua Technology Business Incubation (ATBI) Program, under the Regional Agri-Aqua Innovation System Enhancement (RAISE) program in Central Visayas. The ATBI program empowers startups through mentorship, resource access, and commercialization support, fostering sustainable agri-aqua ventures.
During the meeting, the team emphasized how the ATBI program supports startups in scaling their operations. Key discussions included:

Technology Transfer & Commercialization – Experts shared strategies for bringing innovations to market.

Intellectual Property Management – Best practices for protecting and licensing innovations.

Market Entry Approaches – Tailored guidance to help businesses navigate competitive landscapes.

Engr. Naomi A. Bajao, Project Staff III of the Cebu Technological University–Intellectual Property and Technology Business Management (CTU IPTBM), presented the valuation report of her technology, “Optimized Coco Peat Blocks,” during the second session of the National Intellectual Property (IP) Valuation Training – Batch 2 under the Regional Agri-Aqua Innovation System Enhancement (RAISE) Program, held on August 11–15, 2025, at Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University, La Union.

The Optimized Coco Peat Blocks are premium, sterilized, and pH-balanced growing substrates designed for hydroponics, horticulture, and sustainable packaging solutions. Developed from coconut husks and byproducts of copra production, the technology offers a cost-effective and eco-friendly alternative to conventional growing materials. By converting agricultural waste into high-value products, the innovation addresses sustainability challenges while aligning with the growing global demand for green agricultural inputs.

This milestone underscores CTU IPTBM’s commitment to advancing technology transfer, promoting sustainability-driven innovations, and strengthening the commercialization potential of locally developed technologies.

(APP), proudly holds the graduation ceremony for the participants of the two-part National Intellectual Property (IP) Valuation Training for the Regional Agri-Aqua Innovation System Enhancement (RAISE) Program Batch 2 on August 15, 2025 at Patio by Balai Norte, San Juan, La Union.
A total of 57 participants completed the IP valuation training conducted last July in Iloilo City and this August in La Union, hosted by the University of the Philippines Visayas (UPV) and Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University (DMMMSU), respectively.
Ms. Mary Jade Roxas-Divinagracia, PwC Philippines’ ISLA LIPANA Deals and Corporate Finance Managing Partner, served as the resource speaker for the 10-day training which aimed to capacitate participants with knowledge on valuing IP assets and the commercialization of agri-aqua technologies.

CTU RATBI and IPTBM Join National Effort to Boost Technology Commercialization Expertise at Valuation Training – First Session

Dr. Adrian P. Ybañez and Engr. Naomi A. Bajao represented CTU in the first session of the National Valuation Training for the RAISE Program – Batch 2 held in Iloilo City from July 14–18, 2025.

The week-long training equipped participants with practical skills in technology valuation—from understanding intellectual property to applying cost, market, and income methods—strengthening the path from innovation to commercialization.

The second session continues this August 11–13, 2025.
