Officially, the 48th National Disability Rights Week has begun! A week devoted to advancing equality, inclusion, and respect for the rights of people with disabilities begins yesterday: July 18, 2026.

Let's work together to keep creating communities where everyone is respected, empowered, and given equal chances to prosper. Let's build a more inclusive future for everybody.

The Council for the Welfare of Children joins the nation in observing National Disability Rights Week with this year's theme, "Rights First, Legislation Forward – Strategic Action for Equal Participation and Inclusive Development." ✨

Every child with a disability has the right to protection, quality education, healthcare, participation, and equal opportunities to grow and thrive. Advancing inclusive policies and creating accessible environments help ensure that children with disabilities can fully participate in their families, schools, and communities. 🌱💙

This National Disability Rights Week, let us continue championing their rights by fostering a society where inclusion, accessibility, and equal opportunities are a reality for all. 🇵🇭✨

𝐊𝐊𝐊 𝐍𝐨. 7 | Ang Pahanon ng Pagkilos: Philippine Community Resilience Project (PCRP) ay nakabatay sa mga prinsipyong nagtataguyod ng pakikilahok ng komunidad, mabuting pamamahala, inklusibong pag-unlad, at sama-samang pagkilos.

Sa pamamagitan ng mga gabay na prinsipyong ito, mas napapalakas ang kakayahan ng mga komunidad na maging handa, makabangon, at manatiling matatag sa harap ng mga panganib at sakuna.

𝑵𝑶 𝑷𝑨𝑹𝑬𝑵𝑻 𝑺𝑯𝑶𝑼𝑳𝑫 𝑬𝑽𝑬𝑹 𝑯𝑨𝑽𝑬 𝑻𝑶 𝑩𝑼𝑹𝒀 𝑨 𝑪𝑯𝑰𝑳𝑫

Three young lives were lost. Families are grieving. Dreams were cut short.

Behind every tragedy involving children and youth is a painful reminder that the values we teach today shape the choices made tomorrow.

Parenting goes beyond providing for a child’s needs. It is about nurturing 𝒓𝒆𝒔𝒑𝒆𝒄𝒕, 𝒆𝒎𝒑𝒂𝒕𝒉𝒚, 𝒔𝒆𝒍𝒇-𝒄𝒐𝒏𝒕𝒓𝒐𝒍, and 𝒂𝒄𝒄𝒐𝒖𝒏𝒕𝒂𝒃𝒊𝒍𝒊𝒕𝒚. These lessons begin at home and are strengthened by schools and communities.

𝐃𝐔𝐓𝐈𝐄𝐒 𝐎𝐅 𝐁𝐀𝐑𝐀𝐍𝐆𝐀𝐘 𝐎𝐅𝐅𝐈𝐂𝐈𝐀𝐋𝐒 𝐓𝐎 𝐄𝐍𝐒𝐔𝐑𝐄 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐒𝐀𝐅𝐄𝐓𝐘 𝐀𝐍𝐃 𝐏𝐑𝐎𝐓𝐄𝐂𝐓𝐈𝐎𝐍 𝐎𝐅 𝐕𝐈𝐂𝐓𝐈𝐌-𝐒𝐔𝐑𝐕𝐈𝐕𝐎𝐑𝐒 𝐎𝐅 𝐕𝐀𝐖𝐂

Barangay officials and law enforcers are mandated by law to take prompt and appropriate action in responding to cases of Violence Against Women and their Children (VAWC):

1. Undertake education program on Republic Act No. 9262 and on why it exists, the rights and remedies of victim-survivors, and the duties of residents and all barangay officials;
2. Have a family violence prevention program, including peer counselling for men;
3. Support organizing efforts and development programs for women in the community;
4. Prioritize livelihood projects for victim-survivors;
5. Involve women in planning and implementation of all programs and projects in the barangay;
6. Have an anti-VAWC desk officer in the barangay to coordinate a one-stop shop help desk, open for 24 hours as much as possible;
7. Ensure that all barangay officials, health workers, nutrition scholars, tanod or security officers, and other barangay workers undergo gender sensitivity seminars to enable them to respond to victims of violence;
8. Develop a system to document and report cases of VAWC and assistance programs to victims; and
9. If applicable/necessary, prescribe additional guidelines and standards that are consistent with RA 9262.

Failure to report an incident may result in a fine of up to ₱10,000.00, in addition to any applicable criminal, civil, or administrative liability.

𝗜𝗶𝘀𝗮𝗻𝗴 𝗻𝗮𝘀𝘆𝗼𝗻, 𝗶𝗶𝘀𝗮𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗸𝘀𝘆𝗼𝗻: 𝗧𝗮𝗽𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗴 𝗵𝘂𝗺𝗮𝗻 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗳𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗻𝗴𝗮𝘆𝗼𝗻!

On the same day in 2022, Republic Act No. 11862 or the Expanded Anti-Trafficking in Persons Act was enacted, strengthening Republic Act No. 9208 and reinforcing the government’s capacity to address modern forms of trafficking, including those facilitated by digital technology. This reflects the country’s sustained commitment to prevent exploitation, protect survivors, and ensure accountability for perpetrators.

PCW, together with the entire Inter-Agency Council Against Trafficking (IACAT), remains steadfast in strengthening collaboration to combat human trafficking.
