This week’s syllabus focused on the theme “Saving Mother Earth,” and we believe the best way to make learning meaningful—not just theoretical—is to give students real, authentic experiences. To achieve this, we brought our learners to Cua Lo Beach for hands-on environmental activities.

Day 3 was dedicated to the topic of “Clean Water” and water conservation. We began with a discussion on the importance of clean water sources and their crucial role in sustaining life and supporting sustainable development. To put these ideas into action, we held a one-hour cleanup drive along the beach, where students gathered trash and helped improve the shoreline environment.

After the cleanup, the children engaged in team games and fun activities that reinforced the day’s lesson. The experience was not only educational but also empowering. All the kids went home with smiles and a sense of pride, knowing that through their small acts of kindness, they made a difference for our planet.

Keep it up, kiddos—you helped Mother Earth today!

After establishing vocabulary through visual recognition, the next crucial step in vocabulary development is guiding learners to form words by segmenting and blending individual sounds. This phonemic awareness is foundational to early reading skills. The introduction of CVC (consonant-vowel-consonant) word patterns plays a vital role in language acquisition, especially for EFL learners such as Vietnamese children, who benefit from structured and consistent sound-symbol associations. At the K4 level, these young learners are developmentally prepared to move beyond word recognition. They are now ready to master key lesson vocabulary and begin decoding words independently by blending letter sounds—a critical milestone in their journey toward fluent reading.

For Vietnamese learners aged 2–4, early language acquisition is most effective when phonics instruction is paired with varied, engaging activities. Phonics helps children connect sounds to letters, supporting vocabulary development by enabling them to decode and understand new words. Given the tonal nature of Vietnamese, special attention should be given to helping learners distinguish English sounds and blend them into simple words. Using familiar themes such as animals, family, and colors aids comprehension and retention. Activities like sing-alongs, interactive storytime, matching games, and movement-based games provide multisensory learning experiences that reinforce sound-letter associations and promote active participation. This approach not only strengthens vocabulary but also boosts learning retention and lays a strong foundation for continued language development.
