๐๐ถ๐ฑ ๐๐ผ๐ ๐ธ๐ป๐ผ๐ that the second Friday of January is known as Quitters' Day? It is often the day when most people are likely to give up on their New Year's resolutions.
In fact, 95% ๐ฐ๐ง ๐ณ๐ฆ๐ด๐ฐ๐ญ๐ถ๐ต๐ช๐ฐ๐ฏ๐ด ๐ง๐ข๐ช๐ญ.
Every January, we are reminded to start fresh, reinvent ourselves, and leave the past year behind. The message of "new year, new you" is powerful. Each year begins with a sense of optimism as we set big goals and make promises to ourselves for future success.
However, by February, many find that 95% of those resolutions have faded away.
This common outcome often gets interpreted as a failure of character or willpower, but the issue is often simpler:

The difference between those who remain consistent and those who do not, typically comes down to small, repeatable actions that make progress automatic.

New science is upending long-held assumptions that men are physically stronger than women. Research is increasingly showing that flexibilityโthe ability to adapt, shift, and recover across a lifetimeโis one of the key strengths that makes female bodies so resilient.
Through studies of metabolism, movement, and adaptability, researchers suggest that physiological differencesโsuch as fat stores and estrogenโpreviously considered liabilities of the female body may actually be benefits.

The Philippine sports community deeply mourns the loss of a tennis phenom who championed women athletes in the sport.
Maria Socorro โMarissaโ Sanchez once held the No. 1 spot in the country after she won the National Open and the Philippine Tennis Association Open. She was also the first Filipina to bring home a medal for tennis at the country's first foray into the 1977 Southeast Asian Games.
A remarkable tennis icon once in our midst.
Rest in peace, Marissa Sanchez.

Two (2) in every 10 (22.0%) Filipino adults, aged 20-59 years old have impaired fasting blood glucose (FBG) or considered prediabetic, a major risk factor for developing type 2 diabetes, according to the 2023 National Nutrition Survey (NNS) conducted by Department of Science and Technologyโs Food and Nutrition Research Institute (DOST-FNRI).
Impaired FBG was significantly higher among men (24.5%) than women (19.9%). Meanwhile, 7.5% have high FBG or with fasting blood glucose of equal to or more than (โฅ) 126 milligrams per deciliter (mg/dL), which is significantly higher among urban dwellers (8.8%) than rural dwellers (6.4%).
The survey also revealed the following:

โข 1 in every 10 (13.7%) older persons has high LDL-cholesterol. This is more prevalent among females and urban dwellers.
โข 6 in every 10 (55.8%) older persons have low HDL-cholesterol, and is significantly higher among females than males.
The DOST-FNRI emphasizes that these findings reflect the growing impact of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) in the Philippines. This is largely driven by risk factors such as elevated blood pressure, high blood sugar, abnormal lipid (fat) levels, and unhealthy lifestyle behaviors like smoking, alcohol use, physical inactivity, and poor sleep.
In light of these results, the DOST-FNRI recommends promoting heart-healthy lifestyles, including a low-fat, low-cholesterol diet that is rich in fruits and vegetables, regular physical activity, and the cessation of smoking and excessive alcohol intake.
Specifically, the food manufacturing sector and food establishments, including office and school canteens, should be monitored as to the nutritional content of their products and the food they serve, like fat, cholesterol, sodium, preservatives, artificial ingredients, carcinogens, and other harmful substances like heavy metals and microplastics.
Moreover, these findings are crucial in guiding public health strategies and strict enforcement of policies aimed at preventing lifestyle-related diseases. They also serve as a valuable resource for improving health and nutrition services, particularly for this age group who manifest several nutrition- and lifestyle-related diseases, especially at the community and grassroots levels, where early interventions and health education can make a significant difference.

BREAKING: What does it take to win an ultramarathon? For Stephanie Case, it meant covering 100 kilometers over brutal terrain while stopping three times to breastfeed her 6-month-old daughter.
Yes, you read that right.
At the Ultra-Trail Snowdonia in Wales, Case wasnโt aiming for a podium. After a three-year break from competition, she just wanted to feel like an athlete again. Instead, she crossed the finish line as the first female finisher, clocking 16 hours and 53 minutes on a course with over 6,500 meters of elevation gain.
Her journey to this race wasnโt just physical it was deeply emotional.
After two miscarriages and the birth of her daughter Pepper through IVF, Case wasnโt sure if she could ever call herself an athlete again. She had questions. Doubts. Fears. But she kept moving forward. She began running again in her second trimester and carefully trained to maintain her milk supply while preparing for this demanding race.
Throughout the course, her partner met her at 20K, 50K, and 80K checkpoints so she could breastfeed Pepper a logistical challenge that required special permissions and a lot of heart.
Stephanie Caseโs story is one of resilience, strength, and rewriting what motherhood and athleticism can look like.
Her next goal? To return to the Hardrock 100 the same race that once felt like the end of a chapter. Now, it marks the beginning of a bold new one.
