Guiljungan NHS-Abaca Extension, now carrying a new name -- Ponciana Olac Olasa Farm School -- is fielding eight athletes in the District 1-B Meet.

The sports competition opened today, September 4, at Tuyom National High School.

Eight POOFS students are seeing action in the meet, which will be held until tomorrow.

They are chess players John Renz Dela Cruz (Board 1), John Mark Lisas (B2) and Sent John Bilotendos(B3);

Table tennists Princes Ann Tanjusay and Argelyn Dugaduga; and

Track and field athletes Sheila Mae Nable, Jemera Hernani and Risha Mae Del Rosario.

Coaching them are teachers Rutzel Granada (chess), Jenny Sorio (track and field) and Janice Lagunero (table tennis).

Tuyom Barangay Captain Jose Gyle Lapore u ders ired in his welcome message that "while winning is wonderful, what counts as well is the discipline an athlete demonstrates and the courage to participate."

Abaca mentors have also been tapped to serve the meet's various committees and working groups.

Also serving as technical directors are teachers Jerry Caceres (chess) and Prospero Sarmiento (track and field).

Named technical officials are Richard Merle Jr. (chess), Jaypee Ruales as well as Joseph Estaniuel and Teody Medianero (track and field).
