NEVER AGAIN! CAE AGAINST CORRUPTION!

Today, we remember the dark years when freedom was silenced and corruption thrived under authoritarian rule. September 21 reminds us not only of the abuses of the past but also of our responsibility in the present.

As an academic community, the College of Arts and Education (CAE) stands firm against corruption in all its forms. We affirm our commitment to integrity, accountability, and service to the common good.
Never again shall fear and dishonesty rule. Never again shall corruption steal the future of our people.
Let us be vigilant. Let us be courageous. Let us be true to our calling.

NEVER AGAIN! CAE AGAINST CORRUPTION!

The Symposium on Inclusive Education, themed โ€œPromoting Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion in Basic Education,โ€ held on December 21, 2024, at the Audio-Visual Room (AVR), College of Arts and Education, University of Perpetual Help System-Isabela Campus, marked a significant milestone in the academic journey of the 3rd-year Bachelor of Elementary Education and Bachelor of Secondary Education students. As part of their final requirement for EDU104: The School and The Curriculum, the event provided an opportunity for students to showcase their research, foster discussion, and create awareness about various aspects of inclusive education in the Philippines.

The symposium aimed to explore various educational practices and programs that promote inclusivity, with a focus on the importance of equitable opportunities for all learners. The event was organized around four key topics, each contributing to the overarching theme of inclusive education in diverse settings.

The first presentation focused on the โ€œTeacherโ€™s Journey in Implementing Madrasah Education in Cauayan City,โ€ emphasizing how teachers navigate the complexities of integrating Islamic education into the broader Philippine curriculum. The presenters discussed both the rewards and challenges faced by teachers in addressing the diverse cultural needs of their students while fostering inclusivity in the classroom. They also highlighted the importance of providing space for religious and cultural identity within the formal education system.
Next, the symposium delved into โ€œOne Room, Many Lessons: Exploring Multigrade Classroom Realities in Aurora, Isabela,โ€ which focused on the unique challenges and triumphs of multigrade classrooms. The presenters shared insights into the realities of teaching multiple grade levels in a single classroom and discussed the practical solutions employed by teachers in Aurora to address varying academic needs, as well as the challenges of balancing different learning paces and resources.
The third topic explored โ€œIPED: Sustaining Indigenous Languages in a Smarter City in the Philippines,โ€ which discussed the program's role in preserving indigenous languages in rapidly urbanizing regions. The presenters also shared their findings on the challenges of maintaining linguistic diversity in cities like Cauayan, Isabela. Their discussion emphasized the importance of integrating cultural heritage into the educational curriculum to ensure that indigenous students remain connected to their roots while adapting to modern technological advancements.
Another insightful presentation focused on โ€œALS in Cauayan City: A Second Chance at Education and Beyond.โ€ It showcased how the Alternative Learning System (ALS) serves as a lifeline for individuals who, for various reasons, are unable to attend regular school. The presentation highlighted success stories of individuals who turned their lives around through ALS, demonstrating resilience and determination. The presenters also provided a comprehensive analysis of the ALS curriculum, teaching strategies, and its positive impact on the lives of out-of-school youth.

In addition to the awarding moment, Group 2, with the research titled โ€œIPED: Sustaining Indigenous Languages in a Smarter City in the Philippines,โ€ led by Mark Christian Domingo, was declared the Best Term Paper. Meanwhile, Group 1, with the presentation โ€œOne Room, Many Lessons: Exploring Multigrade Classroom Realities in Aurora, Isabela,โ€ led by Annie Grace Frades, was recognized as the Best Presenters.

The Symposium on Inclusive Education was a resounding success, offering a platform for students to engage in meaningful discussions on pressing educational issues in the Philippines. The event not only allowed participants to present their research but also gave attendees a deeper understanding of the diverse educational models that cater to marginalized and underserved communities. Through this event, the 3rd-year BEED and BSED students demonstrated their commitment to promoting inclusive education, emphasizing the importance of education for all, regardless of background or circumstances. The symposium was a testament to the power of education in creating positive change and fostering a more inclusive society.
The success of the symposium would not have been possible without the active participation of the BEED and BSED 3rd-year students and everyone who contributed to making the event a memorable and impactful experience, and to Sir Gerald Arugay, for his invaluable guidance and for implementing this symposium. It is hoped that this event will continue to inspire future educators to embrace diversity, equity, and inclusion in their teaching practices and advocacy efforts.
