Free Haircut Program for AES Students
In a heartwarming display of community service, Barangay Councilor Hon. Larry Mabong has been consistently offering free haircuts to students of Aragon Elementary School (AES). This initiative, which has been ongoing for 2 years, aims to promote good grooming habits and boost the confidence of young learners.
Recognizing the financial struggles that some families face, Councilor Mabong took it upon himself to provide free grooming services to students who may not have regular access to professional haircuts. Every first Monday of the month after their session, or anytime he has a vacancy, he sets the outside space of Barangay Hall as a temporary barber station near the school premises, offering neatly trimmed hairstyles to boys and even simple hair grooming for girls.
According to the Head Teacher, Mrs. Tachie S. Casangyao, the program has positively impacted the students, not only in terms of hygiene but also in their self-esteem.
“A well-groomed child feels more confident in class. Councilor Mabong’s efforts are truly commendable, as they help our students feel good about themselves while also easing the financial burden on their families,” the school head shared.
Parents and teachers have expressed their gratitude for the initiative, noting how small acts of kindness can leave a lasting effect on the children. Some students even look forward to the monthly haircut session, treating it as a bonding moment with their beloved barangay councilor.
Councilor Larry Mabong emphasized that his mission is to serve the community in practical ways.
“Helping our students look and feel their best is just a small way to give back. Education goes beyond academics—it includes instilling discipline, self-care, and confidence in our youth,” he said.
The program has garnered widespread appreciation, with some local barbers volunteering to assist in future haircut sessions. With this growing support, Councilor Mabong hopes to expand the initiative and inspire other barangay leaders to adopt similar community outreach projects.
Indeed, his commitment to service exemplifies the true essence of leadership—one that nurtures and uplifts the younger generation for a brighter future.
