SAMAR STATE UNIVERSITY secures OVERALL THIRD PLACE during the Philippine Association of State Colleges and Universities (PASUC) 8, Regional Culture and the Arts, Literary Festival, on March 11, 2026, at Leyte Normal University.

The SSU delegation garnered the following individual awards:

- 1st Place, Dagliang Talumpati: James P. Cataros

- 2nd Place, Storytelling: Princess Lyka Donita T. Daco

- 2nd Place, Pagkukwento: Regine P. Jabien

- 3rd Place, Declamation: Rona T. Cabalhao

- 3rd Place, Dramatic Monologue: Jodie Miles G. Alinas

- 3rd Place, Persuasive Oratory: Fiona Joy S. Nube

- 3rd Place, Pagsulat ng Sanaysay: Asel Dela Peña

- 3rd Place, Essay Writing: Donna Mae V. Alaga

The delegation was led by Cultural Director Rowel Abarquez Dacanay , with the Coaches Dr. Ronces T. Valles , Dr. Ma. Ma Carissa Giray - Costambienes Prof. Mra Maria Lyme Flores Correche , Prof. Joan J. Joan Jaboli Baclay , Prof. Jhonil C. Bajado , alongside other student participants.

The Arts and Cultural Heritage Program (ACHeP) extends its appreciation to the University for the collective effort that contributed to this accomplishment.

| Pagtulitol ngan Pagtungkalis: A Lecture on SSU’s History was held to revisit and deepen the understanding of Samar State University’s rich past. The lecture, delivered by Hon. Jhonil C. Bajado, Head of the SSU Museum & Archives, traced the institution’s historical journey from its first principal to the leaders who followed.

Through this engaging discussion, significant milestones and narratives that shaped the university were revisited, allowing the SSU community to reflect on the truth and legacy embedded in its history.

Dr. Art T. Roncesvalles, Prof. Francis Abalos, and Prof. Rowel A. Dacanay will serve as adjudicators for the upcoming Philippine Association of Universities and Colleges (PASUC) National Culture and the Arts Festival. The event will take place in Iloilo City this April 8-12, 2026, celebrating the rich creative talents across Philippine higher education institutions.

The Samar Provincial Tourism, Culture, and the Arts Office successfully conducted the National Arts Month Celebration at Balay Samarnon from February 8-13, 2026

In collaboration with the Samar State University’s Arts and Cultural Heritage Office and artists, the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), and Catbalogan Artists, the event was also participated in by the Department of Education (DepEd) Samar and Catbalogan City Division.

𝗟𝗢𝗢𝗞: Here are the final and official tallies and rankings of the participating State Universities and Colleges (SUCs) of the recently concluded Philippine Association of State Universities and Colleges (PASUC) Region VIII-Regional Culture and Arts Festival (RCAF) 2025 hosted by Palompon Institute of Technology (PIT) , December 10-12.

PIT secured a fourth-place overall finish with 77 points, based on the point system awarding 10, 7, 5, 3, and 1 point to first-fifth place finishers across various competitions.

Leyte Normal University (LNU) emerged as Overall Champion with 175 points, while Biliran Province State University (BiPSU) and Eastern Visayas State University (EVSU) claimed First Runner-Up and Second Runner-Up garnering 96 and 91 points, respectively.
