๐ฅ๐๐๐ฆ๐ ๐ฅ๐ด โ Strengthening IPTBM through ๐ฅ๐ฒ๐ด๐ถ๐ผ๐ป๐ฎ๐น ๐๐ผ๐ป๐๐ฒ๐ฟ๐ด๐ฒ๐ป๐ฐ๐ฒ
Samar State University, through the Samar Island GIS and Data Analytics Center (SIGISDAC), implements activities under Project 1: Strengthening the Regional Intellectual Property and Technology Business Management (IPTBM) in Eastern Visayas of the DOSTโPCAARRD Regional Agri-Aqua Innovation System Enhancement (RAISE) Program Phase 2.
As part of this initiative, SSU successfully convened Consortium Member Institutions (CMIs) in Eastern Visayas through the Regional IPTBM Coordination and Convergence: IP Policy & Technology Transfer Protocol Review and IP Audit & Inventory Workshop, held on March 19โ20 and March 23โ24, 2026, at the Naval Function Room, Summit Hotel Tacloban.
The activity brought together ITSO Directors, IPTBM focal persons, and institutional representatives from the following CMIs:

โข Visayas State University (VSU)
โข Biliran Province State University (BiPSU)
โข Eastern Visayas State University (EVSU)
โข Southern Leyte State University (SLSU)
โข University of Eastern Philippines (UEP)
The activity served as a platform for the review and enhancement of institutional Intellectual Property policies and Technology Transfer protocols, while fostering collaboration, knowledge sharing, and alignment among CMIs. The workshop featured technical sessions led by Prof. Adrian H. Sablan, Chief of the IP Management and Technology Transfer Division of the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines, and Engr. Aldrex L. Aviso, Intellectual Property Rights Specialist of IPOPHL, covering the IP system, technology transfer, commercialization, and institutional policy development.
Through this initiative, the RAISE Program continues to advance a culture of innovation, strengthen institutional linkages, and support the effective management and commercialization of technologies in Eastern Visayas.

Samar State University, through the Samar Island GIS and Data Analytics Center (SIGISDAC) and the Technology Business Incubator (SSU TBI-LAMBAT), actively participated in ๐๐ฏ๐ฎ๐ป๐ง๐ฒ๐ธ๐ป๐ผ๐น๐ผ๐ต๐ถ๐๐ฎ ๐ฏ.๐ฌ, an innovation and knowledge exchange initiative spearheaded by Visayas State University through its Innovation and Co-Creation Office under the Office of the Vice President for Research, Extension, and Innovation (OVPREI), in collaboration with the Visayas Consortium for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Program (ViCARP) and RAISE Program in Eastern Visayas (Region VIII).
๐๐ฏ๐ฎ๐ป๐ง๐ฒ๐ธ๐ป๐ผ๐น๐ผ๐ต๐ถ๐๐ฎ ๐ฏ.๐ฌ serves as a platform for faculty researchers and students from Consortium Member Institutions (CMIs) to showcase innovative and commercially viable agri-aqua technologies. The initiative promotes knowledge exchange, technology transfer, and stronger collaboration between the academe and industry, while supporting opportunities for technology adoption and commercialization.
As part of the Regional Technology Pitching Competition of ๐๐ฏ๐ฎ๐ป๐ง๐ฒ๐ธ๐ป๐ผ๐น๐ผ๐ต๐ถ๐๐ฎ ๐ฏ.๐ฌ, SSU was represented by Mr. Jackey Boy C. Basal from the SSU Mercedes Campus. His technology, โLow-Cost Improvised Recirculating Aquaculture System for Cultured Grouper,โ was awarded ๐ฏ๐ฟ๐ฑ ๐ฃ๐น๐ฎ๐ฐ๐ฒ ๐ถ๐ป ๐๐ต๐ฒ ๐๐ฎ๐ฐ๐๐น๐๐ ๐๐ฎ๐๐ฒ๐ด๐ผ๐ฟ๐, highlighting the universityโs commitment to developing practical and impactful innovations that address real-world challenges.

Samar State University, through the Samar Island GIS and Data Analytics Center (SIGISDAC) in collaboration with the Intellectual Property and Technology Business Development Office (IPTBDO), conducted the IP Masterclass and Patent Mining Echo Seminar, at the SSU Main Campus Convention Center.
The activity is implemented under Project 1: Strengthening the Regional Intellectual Property and Technology Business Management (IPTBM) in Eastern Visayas under the RAISE Program Phase 2 of the DOST-PCAARRD.

The IP Masterclass (Echo Seminar) was facilitated by Engr. Nikko Ardel Floretes, covering IP 101: Basics of Intellectual Property (IP) and Prior Art Search Fundamentals. The session introduced participants to the fundamental concepts of intellectual property protection, types of IP, and essential patent search principles.
The Patent Mining (Echo Seminar) was led by Engr. Fernando S. Macabare, III, covering the Foundations of Patent Mining and Patent Analytics, Tools, Classifications, and Search Strategy, followed by a Guided Patent Mining Workshop.
During the workshop session, representatives from the participating departments and campuses presented their respective works and shared their research initiatives as part of the activity.
Through this activity, SSU strengthens its capacity in innovation, intellectual property protection, and technology transfer, building an IP-ready research community.

Held on October 23, 2025, at the Samar Convention Center in Catbalogan City, the forum was organized by DTI Samar in partnership with the Provincial Government of Samar, LGU Catbalogan, LGU Calbayog, the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI) Catbalogan Chapter, and Samar State University (SSU). With the theme โInvest Samar 2025: Igniting Growth Through Partnerships,โ the event brought together investors, financial institutions, and development partners to explore and strengthen Samarโs investment potential.
Project TANAW was featured in the Innovation Showcase, representing the joint commitment of Samar State University (SSU) and the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Catbalogan City to translate research and technology into practical solutions that drive local development. Its inclusion highlighted the importance of collaboration between the academe, local government, and private sector in promoting innovation-led and inclusive growth. Participating in events like the SIF provides valuable exposure and networking opportunities that help advance the projectโs goals. On August 2, 2025, ๐ฃ๐ฟ๐ผ๐ท๐ฒ๐ฐ๐ ๐ง๐๐ก๐๐ช was among the 9 finalists at the Visayas TECH PLANTER 2025, held at the Grand Ballroom of Marco Polo Plaza Cebu City. Presented under the NextGen Adaptive Systems category, the project received the ShinMaywa Award, which recognizes innovations with strong potential for practical application, social or environmental impact, and compelling delivery.
The project was led by Engr. Raven C. Tabiongan, who delivered a clear and impactful presentation that highlighted an advanced disaster resilience platform integrating 3D modeling, augmented reality, and geospatial data. The delivery captured the audience's attention for its clarity, technical strength, and relevance to real-world challenges.
Backing this success is the dedicated Team TANAW, composed of Ar. Lhimarose Tanseco, Catherine Joie Carcellar, Ma. Yvonne Chiu, Sonny Boy Ellema Jr., and James Cortel.
As part of the event, a poster exhibit was also held, where Project TANAW was featured. The team's presentation helped spark interest among attendees, who visited the exhibit to learn more about their project.
Organized by Leave a Nest Philippines, the Visayas TECH PLANTER is a regional platform that supports science and technology-based startups by connecting them with industry leaders, mentors, and potential collaborators.
