Participatory Situational Analysis(PSA) was facilitated in Brgy. Salvacion, Catarman, Northern Samar on July 26, 2026. It was organized by the BSCD practicum students assigned in the area.

The event not only uncovered the root causes of the challenges experienced in the area, but also served as an avenue for the different sectors to take their stand on certain matters affecting them. Their voices matter, and that was the impression that the program wanted to convey.

It also became a platform for the youth to unite and showcase their talents. Furthermore, the BSCD practicum students did a thorough social investigation before the conduct of the PSA.

The event was attended by the BLGU members headed by Punong Barangay Hon. Aldrin Dimakiling. The BSCD practicum students (Team Salvacion) were supervised by their Practicum Adviser and BSCD SIPP Coordinator, Inst. Arnel T. Pluma.

It's a huge milestone for Brgy. New Rizal, Catarman, Northern Samar as the "New Rizal Youth Organization" was formally launched on July 25, 2026.

The undertaking was made possible through the collaboration of the BLGU members headed by Hon. Elvin Napao, the Sangguniang Kabataan Chairperson, Hon. Rex P. Sagorio, and the BSCD practicum students who underwent a rigorous community organizing process that led to the organization's formation.

The event provided an opportunity for the youth of Brgy New Rizal to be recognized and given a spotlight. They were given a chance to be heard as they shared insights about the present condition and challenges of the community through a focus group discussion (FGD). A representative from the education sector was given a chance to share her insights about the concerns raised by the youth.

The core group of the potential leaders who helped build the organization were recognized and the election was held. Mr. Bryan Cornico was elected as the Youth Organization's President.

The event was also attended by the BSCD faculty members: Mr. Jendel Maynard Bernaldez and Inst. Jeanne E. Dalmacion. The BSCD practicum students (Team New Rizal) were supervised by their Practicum Adviser and the BSCD SIPP Coordinator, Inst. Arnel T. Pluma.

On July 28, 2026, the Bachelor of Science in Community Development practicum students facilitated the formal launching of the first-ever women's organization in Brgy. Cal-igang named: "Nagkakaisang Kababaihan Association of Brgy. Cal-igang, Northern Samar."

The BSCD practicum students underwent the intensive process of community organizing that led to the successful formation of the organization. The activity was co-facilitated by the officers and members of the women's organization who actively took part in ensuring the success of the event.

The activity was attended by the BLGU members of Brgy Cal-igang headed by Punong Barangay, Hon. Edna Empon; Mr. Arzjhon Niel Britanico, the Project Development Officer of Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino(4Ps); Mr. Eduardo Gipay, Jr., the representative for the Department of Labor and Employment, and Mrs. Ledisma Lamberte, the President of Nagkakaisang Kababaihan Association.

The activity was also attended by the CAC faculty members: Dr. Eduardo Ocaña, Jr., Dr. Anatolia Basista, Dr. Chona Adlawan, Dr. Nimfa Buedron, Dr. Franz Honson, and the BSCD faculty members, Inst. Jeanne Dalmacion and Inst. Karen Camposano.

The BSCD practicum students (Team Cal-igang) completed their Practicum I and stayed in the area full-time to ensure that the process of community organizing was done in accordance with the principles of Community Development. The team was supervised by their Practicum Adviser and SIPP Coordinator Inst. Arnel T. Pluma.

The BSCD Practicum students assigned at Brgy. Polangi, Catarman, Northern Samar facilitated the Participatory Hazard, Vulnerability and Capacity Assessment with the BLGU, SK and residents of Brgy. Polangi. The activity was conducted to understand and assess the vulnerabilities and capacities of the community facing different disaster risk situations.

The results of the assessment will also serve as basis for improving and enhancing the disaster risk reduction and Management plan of the Barangay through analyzing its physical, organizational and attitudinal vulnerabilities and capacities.

The research will also serve as basis for future activities and engagements for the BSCD program and other institutions and agencies.

The Bachelor of Science in Community Development practicum students assigned at Brgy. Washington conducted an Organizational Development Seminar for the Washington Farmers Agriculture Cooperative (WFAC) on July 7, 2026, at the WFAC Communal Garden in Barangay Washington, Catarman, Northern Samar.

The activity was attended by Sir Nilo Abria, WFAC Chairman, and the cooperative members. The BS Community Development practicum students facilitated the seminar, and Sir Julio Mari Sumayop, their Practicum Supervisor, shared his expertise with the members.

Discussed during the activity are the topics Organizational Development and Management, Organization Culture and Climate, Leadership and Development, Strategic Planning, and Team Building and Development. The activity aimed to equip the Farmers organization the technical know-how about ODM which is essential in strengthening and capacitating an organization. Resource speakers from the BSCD Program namely, Sir Julio Mari Sumayop, Ma'am Karen Camposano, and Ma'am Jeanne Dalmacion, were invited to discuss and facilitate the activity.

Last July 24, 2026, the BSCD Practicum students assigned in Brgy. Polangi in partnership with the BLGU of Brgy. Polangi, Sangguniang Kabataan of Brgy. Polangi, and the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office of Catarman spearheaded Project Kalig-on aiming to Strengthen resilience in Brgy. Polangi.

Together with the BLGU,SK and residents, the community took proactive steps to stay prepared, informed, and united in times of disaster. Discussed in the activity were the results of the HVCA, disaster preparedness, and workshops on Family Emergency Plan.
