Taxonomy is the branch of biology that deals with identifying, naming, and classifying living organisms based on their physical traits, genetic relationships, and evolutionary history. It provides a 𝙪𝙣𝙞𝙫𝙚𝙧𝙨𝙖𝙡 𝙨𝙮𝙨𝙩𝙚𝙢 that allows scientists around the world to communicate clearly about different species. By grouping organisms into levels such as kingdom, phylum, class, order, family, genus, and species, taxonomy helps us understand how living things are related and how life has evolved over time. 🧫

Did you know that a hybrid species is formed when two different species interbreed? 🧪

A 𝒉𝒚𝒃𝒓𝒊𝒅 species results from the mating of two closely related but distinct species, combining genetic traits from both parents. This process can happen naturally in the wild or be guided by humans through selective breeding.

Hybrid species often display 𝙪𝙣𝙞𝙦𝙪𝙚 𝙘𝙝𝙖𝙧𝙖𝙘𝙩𝙚𝙧𝙞𝙨𝙩𝙞𝙘𝙨 🔬 that are not found in either parent species alone. For example, a mule—produced by breeding a horse and a donkey—is known for its strength and endurance. However, many hybrids are unable to reproduce because their mixed genetic makeup prevents proper cell division.

While hybridization can increase genetic diversity and adaptability, it may also disrupt ecosystems if hybrids outcompete pure species. Scientists study hybrid species to better understand evolution, genetics, and biodiversity. 👩‍🔬🧑‍🔬

Ka-Tangkay, did you know that a glowing ring around the Sun can be a clue that the weather is about to change?

A sun halo is a bright circular ring that appears around the Sun when sunlight passes through tiny hexagonal ice crystals found in high-altitude cirrus or cirrostratus clouds. These ice crystals bend and reflect light, creating a halo that usually appears about 22 degrees from the Sun.

While sun halos are visually striking, they are also scientifically important. The clouds that produce halos often form ahead of large weather systems, meaning a sun halo can signal approaching rain or storms. This makes the phenomenon both a beautiful sky display and a natural weather indicator.

Ka-Tangkay, did you know that a black hole doesn’t actually “suck” everything in—but once something crosses its event horizon, there’s no coming back?

An event horizon is the invisible boundary that surrounds a black hole where gravity becomes so intense that nothing—not even light—can escape. It is not a solid surface but a point in spacetime where the escape velocity equals the speed of light. Anything that crosses this boundary disappears from the observable universe forever.

Scientists cannot see beyond the event horizon, but they study how nearby matter, light, and energy behave around it. These observations help confirm the existence of black holes and allow researchers to better understand extreme gravity, spacetime curvature, and the predictions of Einstein’s theory of general relativity.

Students gathered for a meaningful session through Project Life, led and facilitated by SYSTEMS officers, inviting Mr. Raffy C. Sarmiento as the project’s first speaker. Members from other STEM organizations were also invited as the discussion explored how values and beliefs shape strong character and guide life’s path. 💡

The discussion reminded everyone that true leadership isn’t about power or position—it’s about serving, inspiring, and guiding others with integrity and heart.

From January 18 to January 20, 2026, the Students and Youth for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics Society (SYSTEMS) actively took part in the preparations for the Division Festival of Talents (DFOT) 2026. Through collaborative efforts and hands-on activities, the students showcased their skills, creativity, and commitment to innovation in line with the values of STEMazing.

This participation provided an opportunity for students to strengthen teamwork, responsibility, and passion for science and technology while contributing meaningfully to the event’s success. Special thanks to SDO Carmona for giving us the opportunity to take part in the preparation of DFOT STEMazing, an experience that truly inspired growth, collaboration, and community involvement.

Brains were loading, concepts were clicking—𝓟𝓻𝓸𝓳𝓮𝓬𝓽 𝓣𝓮𝓪𝓬𝓱𝓲𝓷𝓰 made learning extra slay 🧪📚

This project brought the mawi wawi energy into learning through peer tutoring, where students helped fellow students understand General Chemistry in a fun, supportive, and stress-free way 🤝🔬⚠️

The goal of Project Teaching was to make learning less scary and more slay ✨ by providing a safe space for students to ask questions, clear doubts, and break down complex science topics into simple and relatable ideas 🧠💡

Mawi wawi, no more worries—Project Teaching had everyone covered for exam day! ✨✏️
