Eastern Visayas State University - Carigara Campus (EVSU-CC) proudly congratulates Instructor Amelita A. Ariza, MAEd, for being named "EXTENSIONIST OF THE YEAR 2025" at the prestigious EVSUNISTA Awards 2026, held at the People’s Center and Library, Tacloban City, on August 20, 2026.

This well-deserved recognition honors her exceptional leadership in driving a transformative approach to inmate rehabilitation through her partnership with the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) Carigara, Leyte, under the Program HOPE Model.

Her work exemplifies EVSU’s steadfast commitment—through the Extension Services Office—to proving that academic extension is not just a service, but a powerful catalyst for social justice, human dignity, and meaningful community transformation.

In case you were wondering, sa EVSU bawal na ang plastic! (Paano ka nakapasok? Charot! 😜)

On a serious note, per Office of the University President (OUP) Memorandum No. 01-18-2026, the university now strictly prohibits single-use plastics—including plastic straws, bags, cups, and cutlery—across all campus premises.

The administration strongly encourages the entire EVSU community to switch to reusable water bottles, eco-friendly food containers, and sustainable alternatives.

As EVSU strives to become the National University for Resiliency and Climate Action (NURCA), let's all do our part to keep our campus clean and green!

LOOK: The EVSU-CC Bids and Awards Committee (BAC) has conducted its first canvass opening using the Modernized PhilGEPS today, August 17, 2026, in compliance with the New Government Procurement Act (RA 12009).

The online bid opening was led by BAC Chairman Jose Ivan J. Daga AOV; together with BAC Members Kristine Clemencio, MC; Atty. Alfie Sonia Sanchez; Ma. Loida M. Marquez, DM; Elvera B. Quilaquil MM, and Rubia D. Dy, MM. Also assisting the activity were BAC Secretariat Anabelle T. Cerezo, DPA and Ms. Noime Fin, LPT.

𝐄𝐕𝐒𝐔 𝐂𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐠𝐚𝐫𝐚 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐤𝐬 𝟐𝟐𝐧𝐝 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐀𝐧𝐧𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐚𝐫𝐲, 𝐎𝐩𝐞𝐧𝐬 𝐀𝐜𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐦𝐢𝐜 𝐘𝐞𝐚𝐫

CARIGARA, Leyte — Eastern Visayas State University (EVSU) Carigara Campus officially launched the new academic year while simultaneously kicking off the 22nd EVSU System Charter month celebration during an opening ceremony held on campus grounds on August 17, 2026.

In his welcome address, Campus Director Dr. Jayson Balanga commended the institution’s educators, non-teaching staff, and student body for their collective role in sustaining the university’s two-decade legacy of academic service to the region and the country.

Addressing the faculty and staff, Dr. Balanga underscored their contributions to daily operations, identifying them as essential to the campus's success.

"To our teaching and non-teaching staff, thank you for the vital work you do behind the scenes to keep our campus running smoothly, safely, and efficiently," Balanga said. "Hindi po ito lahat magagawa namin... kung wala pong tulong galing sa ating lahat. You are the backbone of EVSU Carigara and our achievements are possible because of your dedication."

Balanga also congratulated the incoming freshmen for choosing EVSU Carigara despite the growing presence of local colleges and private higher education institutions. He urged the new students to embody core values throughout their stay.

"Choosing EVSU Carigara as your academic home means committing to excellence, resilience, and service," he told the incoming class, adding that faculty members, administrative staff, and student leaders—including the Student Regent hailing from the campus—are prepared to guide them.

For returning and upper class students, the campus director emphasized the importance of academic rigor, peer mentorship, and research. He reminded them to push boundaries inside and outside the classroom as they prepare for advanced coursework.

Concluding his address, Dr. Balanga pledged the administration's continued support in fostering an inclusive and vibrant learning environment, calling on the university community to approach the upcoming academic year with passion, collaboration, and institutional pride.
