Education, some people said that it is one of the most important thing that a person have, and some people have the perspective that education is less important, earning money and having temporary income must be the priority. Sometimes let's ask ourselves What is the importance of education to us? Is it still relevant nowadays? And Is it choice of a person to not obtain it's right?

Education is defined as a act of teaching of knowledge to others and receiving a knowledge in something. It is fundamental in creating a more reliable nation and prosperous world. But little did we know that we may face a great catastrophe in the future if the lack of education continues and if everyone will turn a blind eye to this issue. Ladies and gentlemen this issue may not end for eternity but let us address it, help us to raise this awareness so that the eyes that have been intensionally blind for years will be forsaken and the right that have been forbidden will be regained.

With around 65 million Filipinos or about 80 percent of the population trying to survive on P96 ($2) or less per day, how can a family afford the school uniforms, the transportation to and from school, the expenses for school supplies and projects, the miscellaneous expenses, and the food for the studying sibling? More than this, with the worsening unemployment problem and poverty situation, each member of the family is being expected to contribute to the family income. Most, if not all, out-of-school children are on the streets begging, selling ci******es, candies, garlands, and assorted foodstuffs or things, or doing odd jobs.

Transportation is another big problem. Kids walk 2-3 kilometers or more to and from school every day. They have to cross rivers and climb hills with their bookbags. The ones that can afford it take a tricycle, but that is a luxury. Schools are sometimes too far for the most remote communities to practically access. So the families can’t afford to pay and the children....It seems like an intractable problem. Corruption in the education bureaucracy and a lack of resources make delivering a high-quality education to all Filipinos a challenge. Microfinance is one way to help. With the assistance of microcredit loans, women can pay for the education of their children – to purchase uniforms, textbooks, lunches, and rides to school. Also, by creating another source of income other than farming, the children do not have to come help the family work the fields. When I talk to NWTF clients about their dreams, they unfailingly say they hope for their children to “finish their studies.” History has shown that it is an achievable goal. But real systemic change needs to come from above. As long as corruption and bureaucracy paralyzes the system, the goal of delivering a decent education to children – which pays dividends to the country in the long run – will remain out of reach.

Causes:

Many poor children are unable to attend school because they join the workforce at a young age. This can be due to their parent’s inability to afford school fees or because they need the children’s income themselves. Some poorer countries can have households with five or more children. This means that in order for each child to be able to attend school, all five of them must find employment, which can be hard due to the competition for jobs and lack of job opportunities. Additionally, many families cannot afford basic supplies such as books and pens, which prevents children from going to school even if they want to.

Poor students don’t have access to as many educational resources as their wealthier peers. In some cases, this means that they attend schools with fewer resources than other schools, such as older books, fewer computers, and fewer advanced courses. In other cases, it means that these students don’t have access to the same level of technology at home as those who are more financially secure, which makes it more challenging for them to complete homework assignments that use new technologies.

Lack of education

When we talk about lack of education, we are generally referring to those who do not complete high school, but a failure to complete college and beyond also plays a role in the cycle of poverty.

Lack of education contributes to poverty in three ways. First, those who drop out of school are more likely to be unemployed and less likely to secure good jobs. Second, lack of education makes it difficult for people to be self-sufficient — they need government help from programs such as food stamps and TANF. Third, lack of education can lead to criminal behavior and incarceration, which prevents people from becoming self-sufficient even after being released from jail or prison.

It is a vicious cycle. Lack of education leads to poverty and low-income jobs, which in turn lead to people not being able to afford education for their children. This means that the children are unable to break out of the poverty cycle. In many cases, education is not available – either there are no schools, or schools require fees that the families cannot afford.

The lack of education can also cause people to be easily fooled by con men (such as pyramid schemes), or take other actions that cause them to lose what little money they have.



Unfortunately, there is no single answer to this question. There is a multitude of factors that contribute to poverty and lack of education is definitely one of them.

The Global Partnership for Education has outlined the complex relationship between poverty and lack of education as a cycle. In short, it says that when children do not have access to education:

They are more likely to become poor adults

They are less likely to send their own children to school – so the cycle continues
