𝗜𝗡 𝗣𝗛𝗢𝗧𝗢𝗦 | Ilocos Sur Polytechnic State College Main (ISPSC Main) kicked off Intramural 2026 with a bang at the ISPSC Main Gymnasium on Wednesday, September 23, 2026.

The first day started with a parade where ISPSC Employees proudly embodied their college with their distinct colors: black for the ISPSC Central Administration, red for the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) Stallions, white for the College of Health Sciences (CHS) Serpents, yellow for the College of Business Management and Entrepreneurship (CBME) Eagles, blue for the College of Teacher Education (CTE) Falcons, and green for the School of Criminal Justice Education (SCJE) Jaguars.

The parade was followed by the opening program, featuring inspiring messages and banter from the ISPSC Main dignitaries, along with the ceremonial raising of flags and lighting of the torch.

After the opening program, the bleachers gimmick and dancesports commenced in the morning, while the sports competitions started in the afternoon.

𝗡𝗘𝗪𝗦 | ISPSC campuses launch Intramurals, gear up for Intercampus, SCUAA 1 and PASUC 1 2027

Guided by the theme “Strength in Unity, Pride in Victory,” student-athletes across the seven campuses of the Ilocos Sur Polytechnic State College (ISPSC) are gearing up for the upcoming Inter-Campus Intramurals 2026, as well as the State Colleges and Universities Athletic Association (SCUAA) 1 and Philippine Association of State Universities and Colleges (PASUC) 1 Meets, as campus-based intramurals officially commenced today, September 23, 2026.

The campus-level competitions provide student-athletes with opportunities to sharpen their skills, build team chemistry, and demonstrate sportsmanship as they prepare for the upcoming Inter-Campus Intramurals and, eventually, represent the College in the SCUAA 1 and PASUC 1 Meets in 2027, which will be hosted by ISPSC.

The Main, Candon, Sta. Maria, Santiago, Tagudin, Cervantes, and Narvacan campuses are holding their respective intramural activities from September 23 to 25, featuring various sporting events and cultural competitions that showcase students’ athletic abilities, creativity, and talents.

Each campus is kicking off its respective intramurals with a series of opening activities, including parades, opening programs, and fun runs, bringing student-athletes and campus communities together ahead of the competitions.

As the campus-based competitions unfold over the next 3 days, participating athletes will have the opportunity to gain valuable competitive experience and demonstrate their readiness for the upcoming sporting and cultural events.

Anchored on this year’s theme, the intramurals highlight how campus pride and the pursuit of victory go hand in hand with teamwork and solidarity, values that extend beyond the playing field and contribute to a stronger ISPSC community. (𝙋𝘼𝙅)

𝗡𝗘𝗪𝗦 | ISPSC, ISCC seal partnership with an MOU

The Ilocos Sur Polytechnic State College (ISPSC) and the Ilocos Sur Community College (ISCC) officially formalized their strategic partnership during a successful Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signing ceremony held at the RDETC Building of ISPSC Main on Tuesday, September 22.

The event carried the theme: "Strengthening Institutional Partnership for Research, Innovation, Academic Excellence, and Community Development," which brought together key ISPSC and ISCC administrators and representatives to witness the landmark agreement.

The morning's program commenced with an invocation led by Dr. Cecilia R. Vergara, Chief of Rural Health Systems. Dr. Jocelyn L. Absolor, Vice President for Research, Extension, and Internationalization of ISPSC, delivered the welcome address, setting a collaborative tone for the event.

A significant portion of the program was dedicated to outlining the scope of the new alliance. Dr. Ana Blesilda C. Atendido, Director of the Center for Rural Health Research, Reform, and Policy (CRHRPP), presented an overview of the MOU, detailing the objectives, collaboration areas, and expected outcomes of the partnership.

Messages of support and commitment were then delivered by the heads of both institutions, Dr. Roel Anicas, the President of ISCC, and Dr. Jonathan L. Dela Cruz, the Vice President for Academic Affairs of ISPSC, on behalf of Dr. Mario P. Obrero, the SUC President III.

The official signing of the MOU by authorized representatives of both ISPSC and ISCC highlighted the ceremony. This was followed by the exchange of signed documents and a photo opportunity with the signatories and officials.

The formal proceedings concluded with closing remarks from Dr. Sheryl S. Morata, the Campus Director of ISPSC Main.

With the MOU now in effect, ISPSC and ISCC are poised to advance joint initiatives in research, innovation, academic excellence, and community development across the province. (𝘑𝘈)

𝗟𝗢𝗢𝗞 | ISPSC Planning Officer secures CHED HUSAY grant, completes INNOTECH Innovators SEAL Program

Mr. John Michael Ragudo, Planning Officer III and Chief for Data Analytics and Knowledge Management, represented the Ilocos Sur Polytechnic State College (ISPSC) in the first batch of Innovators SEAL: Future-Ready Data Skills for Smarter Higher Education Systems in the Philippines, a 12-day capacity-building program conducted by SEAMEO INNOTECH in partnership with the Commission on Higher Education (CHED), with his participation funded through the competitive CHED Higher Education Upskilling and Study for Advancement of Staff and Faculty (HUSAY) Program.

The initiative brought together 44 leaders and representatives from higher education institutions across the country to develop their capacity in using data for institutional planning, decision-making, and quality assurance.

Participants explored key areas of data literacy and analytics, including data governance and ethics, higher education analytics, the data management cycle, descriptive analytics, and predictive modeling for student success. The sessions also provided hands-on learning in transforming institutional data into meaningful and actionable insights.

For ISPSC, the knowledge and skills gained through the program can support more systematic use of institutional data in planning, monitoring, and decision-making. These competencies may also contribute to the development and interpretation of data that inform institutional strategies, resource allocation, performance monitoring, and quality assurance initiatives.

Ragudo’s participation further provides an opportunity to share data analytics practices and learning with relevant offices and units of the College, helping build a stronger culture of evidence-based planning as ISPSC continues its institutional development and transition toward the University of Ilocos Philippines. The Ilocos Sur Polytechnic State College, through its Research Office and Office of Internationalization, Linkages, and Partnerships, invites researchers, scholars, and practitioners to submit original research papers for Volume 6, Issue 2 (December 2026) of E-DAWA: An International Multidisciplinary Research Journal.

The focus of the research includes agriculture, forestry, environment, natural resources, education, humanities, language and culture, social services, fisheries and aquatic resources, information and communication technology, technology, health, and engineering.

The deadline of submission is on October 10, 2026.

𝗡𝗘𝗪𝗦 | ISPSC, ISCC strengthen linkages through MOU signing

The Ilocos Sur Polytechnic State College (ISPSC) and Ilocos Sur Community College (ISCC) set to strengthen institutional collaboration through a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signing ceremony on September 22, 2026, at the RDETC Building of ISPSC.

Dr. Jocelyn L. Absolor, Vice President for Research, Development and Extension and Dr. Jonathan L. Dela Cruz, Vice President for Academic Affairs in lieu of ISPSC President Mario P. Obrero, represented ISPSC, and Dr. Roel Palo Anicas, College Administrator represented ISCC.

Also present during the ceremony were Dr. Sheryl S. Morata, Campus Director of Main Campus; Dr. Ana Blesilda C. Atendido,Director of the UIP Center for Rural Health Research, Reform and Policy; Ms. Rose Marie Detran, Director for Extension; Ms. Jeneli Q. Wong, Chief of Rural Health Program Implementation and Outreach; Dr. Mandy Roie A. Atendido, Chief of Research Ethics Committee; Dr. Cecilia R. Vergara, Chief of Rural Health Systems Research; Mr. Modesto N. Noble, Chief of Health Reform and Policy Advocacy; and Ms. Maribel Ibañez, Director for Gender and Development.

For ISCC, the ceremony was witnessed by Dr. Cheryl Pilita Dolorica, OIC of the Office of Academic Affairs and Student Services; Dr. James Taiza, Director for Research & Development, Management, Community Extension Services, Institutional Planning and External Affairs & Linkages; Dr. Limuel Dolorico, Coordinator of School Disaster Reduction and Management; Mr. Ian Kenneth Rebula of Coordinator, Office of Research and Development; Ms. Christa Mae Tabuyo, Midwifery Principal; and Ms. Marie Graziella Ribunal, Midwifery Research Focal Person.

The partnership focuses on strengthening cooperation in rural health research, policy development, extension services, instruction, and academic advancement particularly in undertaking joint research studies, academic presentations, conferences, training programs, curriculum enhancement, faculty and student development activities, and community extension programs.

Beyond institutional collaboration, the MOU reflects the evolving role of ISPSC moving onwards University of Ilocos Philippines (UIP), committed to integrating instruction, research, development, extension, and community engagement in advancing responsive and inclusive higher education. (𝘔𝘝𝘉)

𝗣𝗥𝗘𝗦𝗜𝗗𝗘𝗡𝗧’𝗦 𝗖𝗢𝗥𝗡𝗘𝗥 | President Obrero joins Abel-Iloko Exhibit Opening, affirms support for Ilocano heritage

ISPSC President Dr. Mario P. Obrero joined the opening of the upgraded Abel-Iloko Exhibition at the National Museum of the Philippines – Ilocos in Vigan City, Ilocos Sur, on September 19, 2026.

The event brought together Acting Governor SPM Janina Medina-Farinas, City Councilor Ignacio Tadeo, City Councilor Nestor Pajaro, Ilocos Norte Tourism Officer Ian Raquel, ISCC College Administrator Dr. Roel Palo Anicas, Ms. Nicole Savellano, artisans from Abra and La Union, and Ilocano weavers in celebrating the enduring tradition and cultural significance of Abel Iloko.

The exhibition highlights the enduring tradition of Abel Iloko, showcasing the artistry of Ilocano weavers and the cultural history woven into every fabric. The event featured the participation of government officials, tourism stakeholders, artisans, weavers, and representatives from academic institutions in support of efforts to preserve and further showcase Ilocano weaving and its place in the region’s cultural heritage.

President Obrero’s participation reflects ISPSC’s continuing support for initiatives that connect education, culture, and tourism, particularly through the College’s Tourism Management program and its engagement with local cultural heritage. Through these efforts, ISPSC recognizes Abel Iloko not only as a traditional craft but also as a living expression of Ilocano identity, history, and values.

𝗡𝗘𝗪𝗦 | ISPSC Main, PRC RO1 partner to host 574 September 2026 LEPT Examinees

Working closely with the Professional Regulation Commission Regional Office 1 (PRC RO1), Ilocos Sur Polytechnic State College Main hosted the September Licensure Examination for Professional Teachers (LEPT) on Sunday, September 20, 2026.

Along with the PRC RO1 team led by Atty. Arl Ruth B. Sacay-Sabelo, Regional Coordinator, and Atty. Jae Claudette O. Salinas, Assistant Regional Coordinator, 71 ISPSC Main employees under the leadership of Dr. Sheryl S. Morata, Campus Director, helped ensure the smooth conduct of the September LEPT across 38 testing rooms. Headed by Mrs. Maria Cristina C. Remiendo and Dr. Rommel V. Tabula as the LEPT ISPSC Main Coordinators, there were three floor supervisors, three assistant floor supervisors, 51 room watchers, two medical officers, one electrician, six janitors, and three security guards.

ISPSC Main accommodated 574 actual examinees (98.46%) out of 583 registered examinees from different parts of the Ilocos Region and Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR). Of the total actual examinees, 135 were from the College of Teacher Education (CTE) of ISPSC Main (23.16%), with 40 LEPT takers from the Elementary Level (6.86%) and 95 from the Secondary Level (16.30%), including Bachelor of Secondary Education (BSED), Bachelor of Culture and Arts Education (BCAED), and Bachelor of Physical Education (BPED).

Regarding majors, 27 BSED English, 22 BPED, 15 BSED Social Studies, 13 BCAED, seven BSED Mathematics, seven BSED Science, and four BSED Filipino from the CTE took the LEPT.

The exams for elementary and secondary levels covered General Education and Professional Education topics: The Child and Adolescent Learners and Learning Principles, The Teaching Profession, Curriculum Development and Teacher Leadership, Assessment of Learning, Facilitating Learner-Centered Teaching, and Technology for Teaching and Learning. Specialization topics are included at the secondary level, depending on their major.

The conduct of LEPT utilized 38 testing rooms. Nine rooms were from Building 1 [School of Criminal Justice Education (SCJE)]; 13 rooms were from Building 2 [College of Business Management and Entrepreneurship (CBME)]; and 16 rooms were from Building 3 (CTE).

In the last March LEPT, ISPSC Main recorded institutional passing rates of 96.47% for the secondary level and 91.30% for the elementary level, maintaining a strong track record that surpasses the PRC national benchmark.

The successful conduct of the LEPT demonstrates ISPSC Main's ability to host large-scale board exams in Northern Luzon, as evidenced by other previous national tests such as the Licensure Examination for Criminologists (LEC), Philippine Nursing Licensure Examination (PNLE), Civil Engineers Licensure Examination (CELE), and Career Service Examination (CSE).
