Meet Ma’am Jamaica, a dedicated teacher whose journey into the profession was not something she originally planned, but one that eventually became a meaningful part of her life. For her, teaching is rooted in three simple yet powerful words: Heart, Patience, and Purpose.
Ma’am Jamaica finds fulfillment in seeing her learners learn and grow, even in the smallest ways. For her, teaching is not always easy, but seeing a learner improve, understand a lesson, or slowly gain confidence makes all the challenges worthwhile. She believes that teaching goes beyond delivering lessons. It is about being present, guiding learners, encouraging them, and helping them believe that they are capable.
Teaching was not her first choice. However, the profession was already familiar to her because she grew up in a family of teachers. Her mother was a teacher before retiring, and her sister is also a teacher. Through them, she witnessed both the challenges and fulfillment that come with the profession. Although she never imagined at first that she would follow the same path, life eventually led her to teaching.
After 12 years in the teaching profession, Ma’am Jamaica has come to appreciate and love the work she does. Her journey reminds us that sometimes, life leads us toward a purpose we never originally planned for ourselves. As she beautifully puts it, teaching found its way to her—and she is grateful that it did.
Beyond the classroom, Ma’am Jamaica also carries a message of hope for young people. She reminds them that although their journey may be difficult right now, there is still so much life waiting for them. Her message is simple but meaningful: keep going. Challenges may be part of the journey, but they do not have to be the end of the story.
Ma’am Jamaica's story is a reminder that sometimes, we do not choose our purpose at the beginning—it finds us along the way. And when we learn to embrace it with heart, patience, and purpose, even an unexpected journey can become a life worth being grateful for.
Tunay ka ngang maipagmamalaki, Ma’am Jamaica.
