Our young learners recently explored the concept of direct comparison based on size through a fun and hands-on Math activity. Using a variety of concrete materials, our children observed, compared, and arranged objects in sequence according to their size, from smallest to biggest or shortest to longest.

Through this experience, our kids learned that objects can be compared by placing them side by side and carefully observing their differences. They also practiced using mathematical words such as big, small, long, short, bigger than,and smaller than.

Beyond learning about size, this activity strengthened their observation, reasoning, sequencing, problem-solving, fine motor, and communication skills. Most importantly, it helped our learners understand that Math can be discovered through real objects and everyday experiences.

Using the fun and familiar concept of “Trip to Jerusalem,” our young learners had an exciting way to practice their phonics skills.

As they played, the children were challenged to identify the beginning sound of a given object and sort it according to whether it began with the sounds /i/ or /j/. Through this playful activity, our learners strengthened their ability to listen carefully, distinguish beginning sounds, and connect spoken sounds with the corresponding letters.

This hands-on experience helped develop their phonemic awareness, an essential foundation for early reading. It also encouraged active participation, quick thinking, listening skills, and confidence in identifying and producing beginning sounds.

Our little learners certainly had a wonderful “trip” while learning!

Here’s another activity aimed to strengthen our children’s letter and letter-sound identification skills focusing on letter E/e.

To make learning more meaningful, our learners were given a box filled with different alphabet letters and were challenged to find and pick out only the letter E to “feed” the elephant.

This playful activity helped our children practice visual letter recognition while connecting the letter E with its corresponding sound. It also supported the development of phonemic awareness, an important early literacy skill that helps children recognize and distinguish sounds in spoken words. Through repeated and hands-on practice, our learners become more confident in identifying letters and listening carefully to their sounds, building a strong foundation for future reading and writing.

Our young learners continued strengthening their letter and letter-sound identification skills as they explored the letter Ff through a fun and engaging sorting activity.

To make learning more hands-on, our children were provided with colorful eggs labeled with Ff and other letters. They carefully identified each letter and sorted the eggs by placing those marked with Ff into the appropriate box.

Through this playful activity, our learners practiced visual letter recognition, letter discrimination, and phonemic awareness while also developing their focus, listening skills, and fine motor coordination.

Our young mathematicians enjoyed an engaging hands-on activity as they discovered how to compare objects based on size. With a variety of real and familiar materials, our children carefully examined each object, placed them side by side, and arranged them in order, from smallest to biggest and shortest to longest.

As they explored, our learners began to recognize that objects can have different sizes and that these differences can be observed through direct comparison. They also practiced using simple mathematical language such as big, small, long, short, bigger than, and smaller than to describe what they discovered.

More than learning about size, this meaningful experience encouraged the children to develop their observation, logical thinking, sequencing, problem-solving, fine motor, and communication skills. Through active exploration and play, they experienced how Math can be learned naturally through real objects, hands-on discovery, and everyday experiences.

To further strengthen their blending skills for beginning reading, our children participated in an exciting phonics activity using the “Rocket Board.” As they manipulated the letters and confidently produced each letter sound, they practiced blending individual sounds together to form simple words.

This hands-on, play-based approach makes phonics meaningful and engaging while reinforcing essential early reading skills. By actively moving the letters and saying each sound aloud, our children develop stronger phonemic awareness, improve letter-sound recognition, build decoding skills, and gain the confidence needed to read independently.
