The Sinabacan Elementary School feeding program started in 2010 with private donations from the community. Its purpose are to support the nutrition of the worst malnourished kids in the school and to raise the enrolment and participation of kids from poor families. When the stomach is empty, the mind can not learn much. The school feeding program serves a nutritious snack every morning to some 60+
children from grades 1-3. Each meal does not cost much, the average price per meal is P5. Yet the benefits are countless - the children learn better on a full stomach, they stay in school if only for the free meal, there is incentive for the parents to keep them in school. These children are in the first three years of school, most of them are not expected to finish grade 6 - they eventually drop out. The longer we keep them in school, the more they learn from their time in school, the greater the impact on their own lives and their future. The school feeding program has become a school-community partnership - the food is cooked by volunteer parents of children attending the school, all of the ingredients are bought fresh from the local market, its currently supported financially by donations from friends of the school. Please help us sustain this project - every centavo you give goes to buying food, all the peple involved are volunteers - parents, teachers, friends who cook and serve the snacks everyday - they do not get paid. You can volunteer to help the project or
Sponsor meals. We accept cash (with official receipts) and in kind with many many thanks. To donate or help the program in any way, please contact Sinabacan Elementary School or the administrators.
