"The Role of the SSLG under DepEd Guidelines and School Policies"👇

🔶 In the Philippine education system, the Supreme Secondary Learner Government (SSLG)—formerly known as the SSG—serves as the highest governing body of learners at the secondary level. Its operations are strictly guided by Department of Education (DepEd) mandates, specifically the Learner Government Program (LGP).

🔶 Think of the SSLG not just as a "student club," but as a laboratory for democracy and leadership.

⚪1. Core Mandate and Legal Basis
The SSLG operates under the DepEd Order No. 47, s. 2014 (Constitution and By-Laws) and more recent updates like the Integrated Learner Government Operations. Its primary goal is to protect and promote the rights and welfare of learners.

➡️The Five Pillars of SSLG Responsibility:

✅Representation: Serving as the official voice of the student body in school-wide decision-making.

✅Service: Implementing programs that address student needs (e.g., mental health, environment, academic support).

✅Advocacy: Promoting DepEd’s core values: Maka-Diyos, Makatao, Makakalikasan, at Makabansa.

✅Leadership Development: Providing a platform for students to practice administrative and civic duties.

✅Accountability: Managing student funds and projects with transparency.

⚪2. Key Roles and Responsibilities
The SSLG is structured similarly to a local government, with specific roles defined by policy:

👉President: Represents the SSLG in the School Governing Council (SGC) and oversees all projects.

👉Vice President: Assists the President and usually heads the internal committees.

👉Secretary: Handles all documentation, minutes of meetings, and official correspondence.

👉Treasurer: Manages the SSLG budget and ensures financial transparency reports are posted.

👉Public Information Officer: (PIO)Disseminates information regarding school policies and SSLG activities.

⚪3. Policy Integration: How SSLG Fits in School Life
The SSLG doesn't act in a vacuum; it must align with specific school-based management policies:

A. The School Governing Council (SGC)
Under DepEd policy, the SSLG President is a member of the SGC. This ensures that when the school decides on the School Improvement Plan (SIP), the student perspective is considered.

B. Child Protection Policy
The SSLG acts as a peer-support bridge. They are often tasked with helping the school implement anti-bullying campaigns and ensuring that the school remains a safe space for all learners.

C. Transparency and Accountability
The SSLG is required to submit a Financial and Accomplishment Report at the end of every quarter or term. This teaches student leaders the importance of "Full Public Disclosure," a key tenet of Philippine governance.

⚪4. Limitations and Boundaries
While the SSLG has significant influence, DepEd guidelines state they must:

✍️Seek Approval: All activities must be vetted by the SSLG Teacher-Adviser and the School Head.

✍️Balance Academics: Programs should not interfere with the required contact hours for teaching and learning.

✍️Non-Partisanship: The SSLG remains a neutral body and cannot be used for external political campaigning.
