JOE BUSH (Dyobus) Long before DIY crafts became a trend, Filipinos were already coloring clothes at home with a small packet of dye called dyobus. But did you know that “dyobus” came from a real person’s name? In 1899, Joe Bush, an American, opened a laundry and dye shop in Plaza Sta. Cruz, Manila. Instead of focusing on washing clothes, he offered something unique for that time. His shop let people choose their own fabric colors. Later, he began selling fabric dye powders in small packets under the name Joe Bush. Over time, Filipinos turned Joe Bush into the everyday word dyobus, much like how tansan means crown cap today. Even when his shop disappeared, the name lived on in homes across the country. Did you know? In the 1970s, many Filipinos used dyobus powder for tie-dye shirts, making it part of both fashion and history. 🪐 March 23: Saturn’s Ring Plane Crossing
Saturn’s iconic rings will vanish briefly as we see them edge-on from Earth!

🌑 March 29: Partial Solar Eclipse
The Moon will cover up to 93% of the Sun at its peak! 🌞🌑 This eclipse will last nearly four hours, starting at 4:51 AM EDT, and will be visible from parts of the Americas, Europe, and Africa.

The Perseid meteor shower, active from July 17–August 24, 2024, will peak on August 12–13 at 9PM-12AM. The Perseids have a zenithal hourly rate of 100 meteors per hour. The observable rate will be affected by a quarter moon, but conditions will improve past midnight.

Chemist and inventor Dmitri Mendeleev first presented his periodic table on this day in 1869 to the Russian Chemical Society.

The periodic table is an arrangement of chemical elements, ordered by their atomic number, electron configurations, and recurring chemical properties. The first periodic table contained 56 elements. This number has now increased to 118.

Mendeleev was nominated for the 1906 Nobel Prize in Chemistry for the periodic system, but the Nobel Committee instead recognised French chemist Henri Moissan who isolated the element fluorine in 1886.
