On January 1, 1925, Edwin Hubble presented groundbreaking findings at the American Astronomical Society, revealing that the Andromeda Nebula was not part of the Milky Way but an entirely separate galaxy. Using the 100-inch Ho**er Telescope, he identified Cepheid variable stars within Andromeda, allowing him to calculate its distance at approximately 930,000 light-years. This discovery expanded the known universe by a factor of 100,000 and laid the foundation for modern cosmology, including the concept of an expanding universe (Powell, 2017).
