Drug abuse is unquestionably not a movie as it progressively attacks most drug users at their vulnerability, the teenage years. Young individuals are more vulnerable to risk factors, making it difficult for them to resist the initial desire to abuse drugs, which begins with recognizing that the first intake of drugs has few or no adverse effects. This, in turn, increases the likelihood of the terrible consequences that might lead to addiction, which can last throughout adulthood. Thus, understanding the primary causes of drug abuse is imperative in recognizing the warning signs, and seeking assistance are even more crucial before it becomes an addiction.

Ma*****na (cannabis) is the most extensively abused illicit substance among teenagers. Ma*****na is usually viewed to be relatively safe, yet it has the potential to become addictive. It contains tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), a chemical that affects brain cells throughout the brain and deposits four times the amount of tar in the lungs. Furthermore, according to one study, almost 13% of individuals with a drug abuse disorder started smoking ma*****na by the age of 14.

Teenagers are in need of a comprehensive treatment program. According to the 2015 National Survey on Drug Use and Health, around 1.3 million adolescents aged 12 to 17 need drug rehabilitation programs. However, only approximately 80,000, or roughly 6.3%, acquired it. As it is difficult for many teenagers to resist the temptation to experiment with drugs, in the same way, it is also scary and risky to fight addiction on their own without any treatment and support. Therefore, we need to help and encourage young people that suffer from substance abuse to consider intervention and accept the need for treatment.
