Calauag, Quezon โ€” In a united effort to boost post-pandemic learning and strengthen support for students, the Department of Education (DepEd) Calauag East District rolled out the District Capacity Building for School Heads and Tutors on the Academic Recovery and Accessible Learning (ARAL) Program. The two-day event, held on September 16โ€“17, 2025 at the Municipal Sector Elementary School, gathered educators with one shared mission: to rebuild and reimagine quality education.

The ARAL Program is anchored on the goal of addressing learning gaps in reading, with a focus on tutorial sessionsfor struggling learners. School heads and tutors from different institutions attended to gain fresh strategies, practical approaches, and renewed confidence in guiding pupils back on track. With the theme โ€œBawat Bata, May Gabay; Bawat Pangarap, Abot-Kamay,โ€ the event highlighted the importance of shared responsibility in ensuring that no child is left behind.

The program commenced with patriotic fervor through the singing of the Philippine National Anthem, Bagong Pilipinas Hymn, Calabarzon March, and the Quezon Hymn, followed by a prayer and policy statements. School Principal Nenita D. Bernal, Head Teacher Eduardo R. Reduta, and District Supervisor Helen R. Esternon welcomed participants with heartfelt words, emphasizing the role of collaboration and resilience in education.

In her message, Mrs. Helen R. Esternon, Calauag East District Public Schools District Supervisor, reminded every teacher of the โ€œ3Psโ€ they must carry in their profession: PAGMAMAHAL, PAGKALINGA, at PAG-ASA para sa mga bata. She stressed that love, care, and hope are the foundations of meaningful teachingโ€”values that go beyond lessons and grades. Her words served as a moving reminder that at the core of every childโ€™s learning journey is a teacher who believes in their potential.

Meanwhile, Mrs. Marianne Maglalang emphasized that the ARAL Program is more than just another initiativeโ€”it requires teachers to shift hats from being traditional classroom teachers to becoming dedicated tutors for struggling readers. She explained that this transition means giving focused, one-on-one guidance to pupils who need extra help in reading, thereby giving them the tools and confidence to keep up with their peers.

The event was further strengthened by the inspirational message of Dr. Lorenza Hazel T. Ruiz, School Principal IV of CECES, who reminded educators that teaching goes beyond academicsโ€”it is about shaping character and nurturing dreams. Her message, combined with Mrs. Esternonโ€™s 3Ps and Mrs. Maglalangโ€™s call to action, inspired teachers to embrace their calling with both professional dedication and compassion for every learner.

The core of the event focused on training sessions and the presentation of the Training Matrix and PMTs, which provided a structured roadmap for implementing the ARAL Program. Tutors engaged in discussions, energizers, and interactive activities that encouraged them to share best practices. The sessions not only imparted technical knowledge but also cultivated camaraderie and unity among educators.

The District Capacity Building for ARAL is more than just trainingโ€”it is a movement of hope for Calauag East District and beyond. With empowered school heads and tutors, students will soon benefit from focused reading tutorials, personalized guidance, and inclusive learning opportunities. As the event concluded, the words โ€œBawat bata, may gabay. Bawat pangarap, abot-kamayโ€ resonated deeply, reminding everyone that the future of education shines brightest when built with love, care, hope, and the commitment to guide every child toward literacy.

Twenty-two (22) public schools and three (3) private schools from the Calauag East District proudly took part in this yearโ€™s District Athletic Meet held on September 5, 2025 (Friday). Despite the rainy weather, the athletes showcased their skills, passion, and sportsmanship across various sporting events including Athletics, Badminton, Basketball, Chess, Table Tennis, Volleyball, Lawn Tennis, Taekwondo and Billiard.
The Athletic Meet began with a vibrant opening parade, led by the Calauag Central College Drum and Lyre Band and the LRE Band, as athletes and coaches from participating schools marched with pride. The program followed by Mrs. Lorenza Hazel T. Ruiz, EdD, Principal I of Calauag East Central Elementary School (CECES), warmly welcomed everyone as CECES served as the central venue for selected sporting events.
The Presentation of School Athletic Delegations was spearheaded by Mr. Chris Sandro, School PESS of Lamon Bay School of Fisheries. To officially mark the beginning of the meet, Yzzamuel Rose A. Merjilla, athletics representative for the Regional Athletic Association Meet (RAAM), ran around the school grounds carrying the torch and lit the cauldronโ€”a symbolic gesture that ignited the spirit of competition and unity for the Calauag East District Athletic Meet.
During the program, Gerald Kristoff A. Manalo, Archery representative for the Palarong Pambansa, led the athletes in reciting the Oath of Amateurism, affirming their commitment to fair play and integrity in the games. This was followed by the Induction of CED Athletic Meet Technical Officials, officiated by Mr. Sherwin L. Inofre, Principal I of Anahawan Elementary School and Athletic Manager of the Calauag East District.
To officially begin the event, Mrs. Helen R. Esternon, Public Schools District Supervisor, delivered an inspiring message that reminded everyone of the true essence of the annual athletic meetโ€”fostering camaraderie, discipline, and sportsmanship among student-athletes. She then formally declared the Calauag East District Athletic Meet 2025 open.
After the declaration, Mr. Jerome C. Seguerra, the District PESS, convened a Solidarity Meeting with the Technical Officials to ensure the smooth and organized flow of the different sporting events across the designated venues. Throughout the athletic meet, medical teams were stationed in key areas under the leadership of Nurse Nessan Ingrid Rapada, Calauag East District Nurse. The Local Government Unit of Calauag also extended support by deploying a rescue ambulance along with officials from the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) to ensure the safety and well-being of all participants.
Athletes from various sports categories competed with determination, aiming to earn a spot as representatives for the upcoming Calauag Town Meet. Despite the rainy weather, the players gave their best performances, while fellow students filled the designated venues to cheer and show their full support for their school athletes.
At the closing of the District Athletic Meet, winning athletes from the various categories, together with their coaches, were recognized and are set to represent Calauag East District in the upcoming Town Athletic Meet on September 11โ€“12, 2025.
The event concluded successfully, leaving a meaningful reminder that the true power of sports lies in its ability to unite people, build confidence, and provide the youth with opportunities to showcase their talents and potential.
