Sa araw na ito, binibigyang-diin ang di-matitinag na espiritu ng mga Pilipino na hindi sumuko sa harap ng mga pagsubok at pang-aapi. Mula sa mga sundalong lumaban sa digmaan hanggang sa mga ordinaryong mamamayan na nagpakita ng kabayanihan sa kanilang sariling paraan, lahat sila ay karapat-dapat sa ating pagkilala. Ang kanilang mga kwento ay nagsisilbing inspirasyon sa bawat Pilipino na patuloy na ipaglaban ang dangal at kapakanan ng bansa. Ito ay isang paalala na ang kalayaan na tinatamasa natin ngayon ay bunga ng madugong pakikipaglaban at hindi dapat ipagwalang-bahala. Ang pagiging makabayan ay hindi lamang sa pakikipaglaban sa digmaan, kundi maging sa pagtupad ng ating mga tungkulin bilang mamamayan, pagtulong sa kapwa, at pagtataguyod ng katarungan at kapayapaan.

Sa paggunita natin sa Araw ng Kagitingan, nawa'y manatili sa ating puso ang layunin ng pagkakaisa, katapangan, at pagmamahal sa bayan na ipinamalas ng ating mga bayani. For every one decent picture where weโ€™re actually looking at the camera, there are at least fifty of theseโ€”eyes closed, mid-sentence, and absolute facial expressions that I canโ€™t even explain. I used to delete the bloopers, but honestly? These are the ones that actually feel like us.
